make ur own WFP SYSTEM

question to the experts.

im planning on making a system.

now leaving aside the pump to lift the water up the pole. and the scrubbing brush needed.

all i need to do is force feed tap water through DI resin ? and have a filter to stop the DI resin getting into the water tank, ie silk type filter. ive allready established that my water is soft round here, so i dont need the fancy gizmo to fix that.

is that correct ?

if so why in gods name would anyone pay for a system ?

please tell me if im missing a step here, or send me to the article you allready wrote to advise the last idiot who asked this question, as i cant find him.

If it was that simple then no one would.
I think it is Ionics that do a domestic system something like (but not so 'Heath Robinson') you are talking about, you just connect to an outside tap (apologies to Ionics if I have that wrong :-[) and away you go.

If you are quite literally going to virtually manufacture your own system you will need some pretty specialist knowledge.
You can't leave aside the pump, brush and pole, that bit isn't cheap either :-\
You can certainly buy a big DI tank to process your water, and I have seen a post by Justin Ruggles on how to work out how much pure water a given amount of resin will produce providing you have the TDS reading of your source water.

And you will really need to put in pre filters too.

No good just buying a bag of resin, you won't be able to make up your own resin tank and filter!

Dont forget you need to polish the water cus its not pure going through 1 di tank,good luck with D I Y [destroy it yourself] a little knowledge can be expensive,loads of people will help you an here,costly running from a tap strait to pole

personally i would allways go with a RO unit, they are not that expensive and will make the DI last ages :)

I am building a trailer system as I dont want to get my new van wet and rusty. My question is do I need a DI filter at the point of use ie after RO treatment. my water will be made at home and transfered to tank in trailer

Question for Steve,
I'm also thinking trailer. I'm currently working with a tank out of a Vauxall Combo, but I miss my car & can't justify owning both.  Am I right in thinking that you plan to transfer your treated water from one tank at home to another in the trailer. I have this idea of incorporating my RO & tank permanently in the trailer & just unhitching the thing at the end of my working day & wheeling it to my outside tap to fill up over night. That way, I don't need two tanks. Make sense?. What would be the down side?.
Also, personally, I've never towed a trailer. Have you already experience?. Is it, like most driving experiences, just a matter of getting use to it & will it be quick enough in & out of cal de sacs etc.

i have a small DI after my RO think it holds 700ml its Refilable so thats a good point

i used to have a 250ml which was also refillable :), i just sat it ontop of my RO, i changed to the 700ml as i want the 250 for another little project :)

the 250 ml is only about 10 quid to buy and a bag of DI to refill it 4 times will set you back 8 quid

not much money to get that final polish

I dont want to mount the RO in the trailer as although the trailer has suspension I feel the bumping about would not do it much good but this could all change. As for pulling a trailer the only way to learn is to do it! and the only tip I can offer is when reversing is to turn round and imagine you are pushing it I hope this helps

  It would,nt be a bad idea to have a trailer brake that slows the trailer down when the vehicle in front slows down if its a fair size tank.

 I realise you,ve probably thought of that but its surprising how many vehicles are "jacknifed"by having too much weight in the trailer and then trying to stop without a trailer brake.
