staff levels
« on: February 23, 2015, 07:21:12 am »
Hi
We are having terrible problems staffing our jobs at the minute. We have had one vacancy for over a year.

We do require weekend evening staff , but we are happy to over staff so there are weekends free.

on gumtree , job centre , local paper we have had nothing but messers.

We particularly struggle with supervisory levels. Desperately need a couple of good people. We are offering 16 hours a week plus and good money.

any suggestions. Is there anywhere else we can advertise at a reasonable cost.

Cheers
John

Offer a cash payment to your staff for introducing new people. Payable after a certain period. Local paper could work but is expensive.
We suffer from those who have been out of work for ages and get pushed by the benefits guys to get a job or else. They work for us for seven days and then quit with a bad back.
Best people for the job you mention is recently retired and fancy doing a bit for extra money and the social interaction. Target them. Also if it is really desperate, go via an agency on temp to perm basis.

Hi
Thanks Tom will try this .

We have had staff referrals work before  before with certain ethnic groups , ie we had a Ghanian who recommended people from his church got steady stream of new workers.

We are getting loads of applicants but as you say they only apply because of push from job centre .

Cheers

Exactly the same issue. Girl on trial today, saw her Last week, spoke to her sunday and all good.
Text ten mins before she was due to arrive today with the worst excuse ever. Very frustrating.

I've found Indeed.co.uk works well for us.  In certain locations it's been really difficult to recruit online.  Therefore we've found the method that works best for us is the old fashioned advert in the newsagents window.

we use agency staff from now on

no payroll, no holiday pay/sick pay and you can drop them a lot easier if they are useless.

We pay around £8.20 + VAT if we guarantee them X number of hours per week.
