Hope everything goes well when you go back to the hospital.

Get well soon dave, and it just goes to show you dont have to be at the top of a ladder to have a bad accident.

Ladders aren't illegal and still a valid important piece of equipment to WC'ing, I'm WFP and have been for years but our work is varied like Dave's, we do plenty of internal work where using ladders is the most appropriate piece of kit.

Best piece of safety equipment I ever bought was the Industrial Rojack or Ladder stopper, if used correctly this makes ladder slippage "stiles" almost impossible, It's part of our H&S policy that Rojack is used for all ladder work and that ladders are footed by second person wherever necessary.

accidents do happen and I bet Dave's glad it was him and not one of his employees, the time off work will be less hard since you have staff to send out and earn you money.

Get well soon and everyone please be careful

Just sitting here doing our annual Safecontractor reassessment, they seem to move the goal posts every year  :(

Human error, i brought a wet ladder onto a polished floor, i only stood on the first run to reach above a door to wipe off a squeegie mark.

Without warning the ladder feet slipped out and took my feet with it.

In 12 years of window cleaning, the ladder has never slipped out whilst i have been stood on the first run, even on a wet floor

even following all H&S procedures, it woulndt be unreasonable to expect the ladder not to slip out, even with the wet floor given my 12 years experience.

Go WFP and sue the property owner.

Cant.

although the property owner will not have a leg to stand on, Dave could also be in line for prosecution from the H&S boys if the property owner knows their stuff.

So for what he gets it will be taken away in fines.

Bit of luck it wasn't an employee - if they did it and knew their rights Dave and the property owner could have been stuffed!

most accidents on a ladder occur when using the first rungs of a ladder.

The accident has, been reported to  riddor.

all h&s procedures were being followed, ie risk assessments etc, it was just a case of human error and as a result a freak accident occured

theres no way it can be proecuted by the hse
