I do a 3 bed house with large conservatory for 6 quid, it was one of the first jobs I got and priced wrong, I dont have the heart to put it up as her husband left her and the 3 kids 2 months after I started doing the windows and she has kept me on, even though I know for a fact he has gone well away and doesnt give her a penny.

Wayne,

please stop typing in capitals.  In 'geek speak', it's called SHOUTING, and believe it or not; it can be quite annoying too.

You will find that you get a better response to posts if you type in lower case, reserving capitals for when they're required.

I AGREE WITH DAVE WHO AGREES WITH TOSH.

OUR WORST PAID JOBS ARE THOSE JOBS WE MISS AT THE END OF THE DAY AS THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN 100% PROFIT.

ALL THOSE JOBS THAT TAKE AGES AND ARE A PAIN IN THE BACKSIDE, ALL LONG GONE.

WE DO A FEW PLACES TO DO WITH CHARITIES FOR ALMOST NEXT TO NOTHING THOUGH BUT THAT ISN'T QUITE THE SAME.

I have quite a few silly £6 jobs that I priced when I started up last summer. Although I probably have speeded up considerably over the last few months.
I do try to earn £20 per hour too, and mostly I do, but this is "working" time and obviously travelling between jobs does take up quite a bit of the time.
I average £100-£120 a day when I have my good-ie busy-weeks so really I'm quite proud of what I have acheived as I started with a completely blank canvas, and I now take approx £1700 per month.

What is it? A block of flats or hotel?

It's now a very very extremely prestigeous block of flats along Brighton seafront - grade 1 listed and built in 1934 called Embassy Court. A few years ago it was an eyesore and a drug ridden dump for down and outs.

http://www.embassycourt.org/

One of the conditions of the contract was no wfp as they had previous experience of it and they were not good ones and the managing company is hardly a nobody when it comes to experience of such things.

The windows that are flush to the front of the building, they have to be done with roped access which we contract out but everywhere else, it has to be done trad style.

I think it can be both a blessing and a curse to just be 'wfp' or 'trad' only. Not all trad work is dangerous and fraught with danger and not all wfp work 'the only way'. I think it is best to do the job according to first what is safe, and secondly what the job requires and to say 'wfp only' limits yourself as does saying 'trad only'. There again if anyone is happy working like they do then more power to their elbow.

It's great and well paying contract though but the standard they require is extremely high and this week we had to go back for the sake of 8 windows out of 1400 around the back that had smears on them.

As for the worst job - I forgot, it my other halfs sister place. I do it for free when we visit. The last thing I want to do during the evenings is window clean.  :-[

To be honest some of these 'prestigious places' are the worst payers. I clean what is supposed to be one of the best 5 small hotels in the world and its really at Rock bottom price. I've had to get some polish in to help me out and pay them peanuts just to make it worthwhile.

One night s stay would pay for the window cleaning for a month.

I would trad that place in Brighton no problem if the price right.

Some companies are prepared to pay for quality. We have a number of places that pay through the nose but they expect that you will jump when they say jump because they pay good money. Some businessmen do understand that it requires hard cash and prompt payment to get what they want.

It's a question of finding them.

How you find them is I think a question of attitude towards wanting to do a really good job for good money and somehow being in the right place at the right time.

As an example, we also do one smallish Italian restaurant. They pay £30 a clean for 2 doors and 6 large easy to access windows. It takes one person 20 minutes or less but what they want is their windows done in the same day of phoning us. Sometimes we don't do their windows for a few weeks and sometimes like this week, they've phoned everyday.

What we do is not only their windows but all the frames and shop front with wfp and then squeegie the windows afterwards.

They are happy and we are happy and we provide a 100% quality service and they are prepared to pay for it.

I do think it's down to attitude towards the customer and in the past we have done quality work for peanuts but somehow it's like you evolve. I don't know how to explain it.
