Let us know how it works out, Kev, though my feelings, after reading some of the posts about Groupon and how it works, aren't positive.

It sounds like you could be doing a lot of work, for very little return.

But maybe I don't understand it properly?

No you understand it correctly ;D
In return for doing a lot of work for little return, you can end up with a database of clients very quickly, but you have to be very clever with your offer and not let Groupon advise you on how to do it!
It really is a marketing exercise and a cheap way of getting customers, but at the expense of getting proper price work in :)

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. ;)

I have some experience of this but in another sector.

My experience (& of many others) is that the people who buy from Groupon are bargain hunters & who are not prepared to pay any more for the product/service than they get it for in the first place!

What sector was this in? The general consensus is that it works for restaurants, cinemas etc etc, but not great for service industries :)

Kev, have you done a "groupon" before? There seems to be a thread earlier on October about it and nor sure it if it was you or not? If so, how did that one go for you and what area was the offer based in?

Basically mate you go groupon and contact your local groupon and enquire about doing a groupon ad,then they will contact you.
You then have a phone interview they gather all the details of the offer and explain what you get, what they get.
 You then sign online contracts.
they go to head office in London and make a decision within 7 days deciding if they accept you to go on groupon!
 really straightforward.
If you want any advice or more info contact me on contact@cleanerbrighterwindowcleaners.co.uk

can you break down what they make, what you charge and what you get in the end etc

or
original price

what the customer pays

and what groupon get

and what do you get

doesn't have to exact as your prices are your business but an example so we can see the % involved

make it simple and say the original is £100 or £50 whatever you prefer

ok pal,
if the customer pays £50
you get £25 minus vat £20
groupon get £25 minus vat £20
but you get lots of exposure aswell as many potential repeat customers!

ok just one more question, if the customer pays £50 what is the original price, i.e. what discount are they getting.

not knocking this and I am not daft I realise you will have made the original price higher than what it would be normally

ok now I have the full picture and I wish you the best of luck and I hope it works out for you, keep us informed
but I for one will not be following your lead.

but hope it works out for you, I can see how you can make it work though, but I doubt I could convince a canny jock that they were getting a bargain if I used the sums involved

Ive chatted to 2 window cleaners who said it was very succesfull.
I will soon find out and to be honest very excited by it,im also in the process of donating free window cleans for raffles etc which gets me good publicity aswell as getting in the papers!
Doing what i can to get my name out so i can build my brand up.

There are enough `dolies`and `cowboys`putting out unbelievable
Rock low prices to get work,Groupon is going to make things much
Much worse than what it is in some areas anyways already.
It will do nothing but keep prices below what even the `cowboys`are
Charging.
It`s only the un established cleaners short of work that will go for a
Groupon deal.
There`s proof of that in an earlier `post`on this thread.

Never heard anything so ridiculous in my life.
Your original price could be £100 yet you end up with £20 after Vat....so basically you are letting 80% of your turnover go (presuming your,e not VAT registered) in order to get good exposure.
Surely you would be much better off taking 80% of your current turnover and employing canvassing teams to get new work at the true market value.
These schemes drive prices down to unsustainable levels and are not only damaging to you but also potentially the trade in general.
How many of the customers that actually pay £50 instead of £100 (example figs only) will willingly sign up long term, they are bargain hunters who have caught onto the fact that desperate companies will offer something for nothing just to get new business in.
I certainly do not hope that it works,i dont wish bad fortunes on your finances personally (you're doing a grand job of that yourself) but i can see every desperate wc/gutter cleaner/upvc cleaner looking at this with rose tinted glasses.
