If a van has a 600 payload what is the max size tank you'd all recommend fitting? the system will be a 1 user system.

With two men on board and a full tank that would be over the payload limit.

As a one man I would say that a 400 is the limit in a 600kg berlingo.

The hdi engine will be better but the 1.9 will "do".
It's a game of three halves!

Ill go with a 400L one then as i was only going to get a 300L in the berlingo as it was for smaller jobs etc but the more water it can carry the better :)

No not over payload, when I fitted it out I fully loaded it even with my triple set of ladders on roof, took it to a weigh bridge and had it weighed to make sure, got the print out of the results too!

Would depend on the weight of the 2 men.
400 lts water = 400kg
2  13 stone men =165kg
Thats 35 kg for everything else.

Yer think there was about 20-30kg in it.

The triple ladders are never kept on the van only carry them when I do my gutter jobs so tanks are always empty when I do them.

+tank 30+kg
+ fuel say 30l =30kg
+ reel ?
+ poles
+ miscellaneous bit and Bob
And you're waaaaaaay over your payload!!!
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

So if guess the public weighbridge that the local police use to check vehicles must be wrong then!

I'm not saying that they're wrong, but if you do the maths you will see that the total = more than 600kg. When you put your van on the weigh bridge did it have two people in it?.

When I was working for Citroen, the Berlingo (1999 - 2005) van had a 70 kg allowance calculated into the payload for the driver. So if you weigh 60kgs your 600 LX had a payload of 610 kgs. If you weigh over 70 kgs then you have to remove the difference from your payload.

Tank full of fuel is not counted in payload
You still have 600kg with a full fuel tank.

Yes it is counted, so that's 50kg to take off if the tank is full.

Never have full tank, unless I'm driving to parents house, only put in £10 at a time, saves on weight! It lasts me 2-3 days so not bad, plus got garage just down the road.

But this post is not about you,the OP asked what size of tank people would recommend for his van,you recommended a 400 litre tank which in most cases(apart from you because you only put ladders on when tank is empty or you only put a tenner o diesel in at a time, and the 2nd man in the van is built like Lester Piggot etc etc)will be overweight,so you gave bad advice IMO
