« on: November 03, 2012, 07:40:04 pm »
hi

not sure if this is the right forum to ask this. i do some drive and patio pressure washing. a friend of mine has bought a big old house and i'm going to remove the moss from the roof (it's comepletly covered). it's not something i normally do but i'm doing it as a favour for hiom. what's the best way of doing this, preferably from the ground? any ideas?

thanks in advance

I've done a few with a pressure washer working from a roof ladder, but I wouldn't want to do another. Slow, uncomfortable & dangerous. I'll be watching with interest to see if anyone suggests something better.

Mosmatic do a roof cleaner but you have to use it from the ridge. If you haven't a head for heights - forget it.  Also for a one off job, it's pricy
There's no proper way of doing it from the ground - more likely of getting water under the tiles and causing a whole additional problem

I would think a hoist is the only way to go in safety using a power washer but personally would not touch this kind of work with a barge pole . If roof leaks later you will be blamed.

We " hand scrape" the roof from the eves with extending aluminium poles. We the have a detergent moss killer mix that we spray the roof with which does two things  A) it kills the remaining moss  B) slowly/gently  cleans the roof. The system does work very well it was developed for listed buildings where the likes of English heritage or Natural trust would not allow anybody near there roofs with a "pressure washer". This system does have limitations on "ordinary wavey roof tiles" in that they are a pain to scrape!.Rosemarys come back like new. My number is 07973216502 if you wish to discuss your roof.
