How do I remove Lythofin Slate Seal
« on: July 10, 2012, 08:32:08 pm »
I am stripping off 10 years worth of Lythofin Slate Seal, what a Tw@t!!
I am sure Lythofin do a product called Wexa which does the trick, however, I am sure Kevin will have a product or maybe YOU know of another product which will remove the evil stuff.

The key to this is do a test area first. It depends how thick the Slate Seal is and how many layers of it there are. Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover will definately shift it. However, that said I would still try Aqua Mix Heavy Duty Tile & Grout cleaner first, coupled with Honing Powder. Let the HDT&G have a dwell time then use the honing powder the Alkaline will break down the wax and then the Honing Powder will abrade the rest. This method usually works. If not you will have to resort to the Sealing & Coating Remover then the HDT&G and then the Honing Powder.

Cheers Kev, I bought some AMHDT&G and Honing Powder from you when I was on the course, I will give that a whirl tomorrow.
Just one thing though...it's not wax, it is a Oil based seal, does that make a difference?
I could do with a price list from you, can you email one to me?

Hello again Kev
Just thought I would let you know that I tried the HDT&G & Honing Powder... it did't touch it.
I will try the Sealing & Coating remover next time, any chance of a price list??

Isn't the Lithofin product an impregnator sealer?

If it is then from my experience high alkaline chem/cleaner should pull most of it out, admit we do outside cleaning not interior though.

OK Rob thats exactly what I said in my post!  I always try the easiest less expensive option first.  Now use the Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover and it will get rid of it.  Don't forget it also needs a dwell time.
