advice - powerful hwe - trip house fuses?
« on: March 13, 2013, 08:43:27 am »
hi guys
not far away from upgrading to more powerful machine requiring to power leads.

have you ever found that you can trip household fuses?

if so do you tend to make yourself or customer that this can happen and identify where fuse box is?

the old houses can have the old style fuses, not automatic, if you blow them you will need the new ones
so, I would make sure only when servicing those houses

Depending on the machine... choose where you plug it in carefully!
As an example if you have an Airflex Turbo, Jag etc...

It will have 2 power cables... run each cable to a separate 13 amp wall socket, if required then use good quality extension leads which are rated at 3100 watts each... Always make sure they are fully un wound and without fail always use RCD breakers.

Never switch both motors on at the same time, vac 1... wait 3 seconds then vac 2.

I was talking to an electrician the other day.
He said there's more chance of tripping the
new type fuses than the old wire ones.
I still have the wire ones in my house, real
pain when one does go though.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Iv'e never had a problem with my Scorpions! 3x HD 5.7 Vacs! Was cleaning an EOT yesterday Customer only had cold water, so i had my drop in 3kw heater as well and no tripping issues
It was an old house actually built in 1830 but had circuit breakers and rcds in the garage and was where i was plugged in from, so if they had of tripped i could of easily re set them

never ever had a problem with the speed i turn the vac motors on either, one thing i would point out though! is if the all three vacs had been turned off via the socket switches and then switched back on again via the socket switches then i would trip the circuit breakers

Plug into separate sockets. RCD on each plug and fuse wire in tool box. Where is the problem.

Jaguar 6.6 is the most powerful portable I have used in 30 years and that has not blown house fuse, to date !!

When I got it, I used it on my own house & car ......... had both cables plugged into my outdoor double socket ...... then used my heavy duty extension lead and it never tripped anything. Best to follow previous advice on using two seperate circuits though, when on any job  :-[

you will draw less amps than a scorpion! you diddnt have one did you ? I know it has been said that you need a five second delay between turning on vac motors, but that is nonsence realy, unless the customers electrics are temprementle! and some are but in the seven years ive used these machine ive never had a circuit blow! Apart from my Jaguar when it blow the number two vacs

The fear of tripping switches should have no influence on what machine u buy in this country  ....

In a modern house you are probably plugging into a 20radial or 32amp ring circuit .

There is lots of electricity ... just plug it in   :)

I do know there is some mathematical equation to justify the '20 times more powerful' statement on paper but all I know is .......... I put five buckets of clean water in my Jaguar 6.6 and I empty away four and a bit buckets of soiled water ............. me & my customers know that it is not possible to even get another 20% out   ::)roll

Dont let Nic hear you saying 6 buckets! he tells people to put in four at most! overwise you stand a a big chance of water entering the stack pipes ! Lol
