£28 per sq yard?
« on: November 29, 2005, 08:47:31 pm »
Hi,
Got a call from an elderly lady last week. Price to clean a lounge carpet, 12x12, (OAPs council bungalow).
I quoted £45, she booked the job.

Did the job yesterday, straight forward enough, used the Dry Fusion system because it was a deep pile carpet and she needed to use the room straight away.

Excellent results. ;D

The lady was very chatty :(
She is 85 years old, lives on her own. no family.
A bit unsteady on her feet, but manages OK.

When I had packed the kit away I went back into the house, she was in the lounge with a big wad of cash counting it out,
I said ( joking), that’s not all for me is it !

She said " £450 you said didn’t you dear "! :o   ???   ;D

I said "no ,,, £45 " She was so embarrassed and got quite upset.  :-[

It just shows how people like this can be taken advantage of, if I had taken the money no one would ever have known.

Nice to see that there are honest carpet cleaners out there. We see so much in the news about rogue traders, but these are the minority, there are far more traders who want to perform to the best of their ability and provide a good honest, reliable service. These sort of stories restore some faith in human nature and reflect a better image for our industry. It's not all about money, it is also a way of life.

Nice one Chris

Excellent,

While I was round another 85 year olds house cleaning a similiar size room for £45 a Guy from Zenith knocks on the door,

Hello Luv just in the Area Making sure your Windows are alright.

What it is bussibess us niot very Good at present etc etc

His hit line was along the lines of please let the Salesman come round at three oclock as we will loose our jobs.

Strangely the Customer agreed to this.

After discussion with me decided to go and visit her friend.

In the past I have been against a ban on doorstep selling but if old people fall for this tactic  I may be wrong as Zenith and other Doorstep leading canvassing companies are not getting their act together

Might have been a set up by "Rogue Traders"....!

The little old lady didn't look like Matt Alwright, did she?  ;D
