Seems cheap to me to have a TM repaired, i know a company that charge 260 to do a vac on a porty and 280 for a 130psi pump.

I bought a 12v pump as recommended by john Kelly as a good one and it was about £170
yes I could have bought a cheaper one but this one was explained as a heavy duty one and would last longer, so happy to pay.

i don't understand, mike and dawg are more expensive than me yet offer nothing extra. (well, not that i know of :-* ) so why have a go at HM's prices. i certainly don't find £370 excessive for whats been done, yeah you could get it cheaper, but at the end of the day, mikes and dawgs customers could get it cheaper but choose not to cos there happy with what they offer.
i'm all for slaggin off bad customer service, slow deliveries, stroppy phone speak etc... but there prices are what keeps the company going and should be respected, especially as they offer a good fast polite efficient service. and with free advice ;D

does the h/m pump come with an accumulator?,

Craig could you not direct feed the machine and just order one, might have saved a trip to sunny Cornwall

Derek I do find £370 excessive hence my joke, but I don;t know all the fact so perhaps my thoughts are unfounded

and the reason i charge more than you is I value myself higher and we work in a free economy were prices are only limited by what the customer is willing to pay

I'm not slagging anyone off. Just stating that I think that is alot of money to be spending on a 120psi pump and fitting regardless that you can make it back in a day. Its a business your running not a charity!

By the sounds of it, it sounds like a straight forward job. A couple on bolts and wires. I presume your new to carpet cleaning Craig? I got charged "alot" in the early days too before I started to have a look under the hood for myself and founds its pretty simple really.

p.s. Rolex pressure gauge! ha ha  ;D

As I understand it, Craig is not new to CC but very new to Truckmounts.

Imagine trying to understand the electronics on NASA's latest space shuttle, that's pretty much how it feels when you first clap eyes on a TM and all its trillions of parts.   "What do they all do??" you say to yourself, standing there gobsmacked.

So Craig has NOT "just bought some parts and paid over the odds for them".  Like Derek says, Hydramaster (let's forget the recent uproar) are brilliant at their customer service.

Craig has bought peace of mind along with his repairs.  We all sell this to our customers every day.

I'm sure as Craig's knowledge of his machine increases and he gets a bit more clued up as to how Truckmounts work, he won't think twice about grabbing his tool box and getting stuck in to a few minor repairs and a bit of servicing.

There's just a bit of a wall to break down first of all, after which you begin to understand how the damn thing works and lose your "fear" of it.  With respect to portable operators, it's all very well scoffing at people like craig but changing a few vacs & pumps every now and then ain't exactly rocket science is it?  Opening up a portable isn't exactly daunting.  Now go take the cover off a water-cooled TM and tell me what all those bits do!!

It's good to have such a wealth of knowledge and support to lean on in the early years of having a TM, after which most people will learn to do more for themselves and laugh at how they were afraid of the machine when they first got it!

Craig I follow what your saying none of us like spending money that's why we are in business to make as much profit as poss. I personally believe hydramaster s prices are good value for the service they provide. Cause there are people  who are mechanically minded built there own truckmounts won the noble prize and circle navigated the globe and then put 10 k worth of flyers out before parachuting of mount everest. But for us mere mortals who can work the basics out on their tm s after learning over time. Hm is a valuable source of knowledge and if it means paying a little on top to keep business like this thriving at the end of the day I personally would be in a muddle from time to time without them.

Richards  response actually hits the nail on the head, for them that need it H/M provide an invaluable service..... for them that don't they can be an expensive extravagance.

but I think it would be better to learn how to do basic maintenance on your truckmount not only to save money but to not have too take a day off work.

If its the on demand pump then its not a normal portable type as its a high flow type needed to keep up with the flow on a TM.

I changed mine recently and it was just about the most basic and easy fix you could do on a TM so perhaps some sort of beginners course is needed.

Fault finding is much more difficult task.

Not strictly true Colin.
The bill isn't 'written off', it is just a tax allowance.
When it goes through your accounts, it simply means that you will not pay tax on £370 of your turnover.
This equates to £107.30 less tax to pay, however it has still cost you the balance - £262.70p out of your profit.
In other words if he hadn't spent the £370 on the pump it would still be in his pocket/bank.
He did spend £370 so he is down £370 from his pocket/bank, but he has £107.30p less tax to pay, so the pump has actually cost him  £262.70p in less profit/income.

Me too, especially as my last big spend was over £46,000 - work that out, a big tax saving but also a huge chunk out of profit.
