What would you do
« on: July 06, 2020, 07:39:46 pm »
I am not asking for advice as I have made up my mind but thought it would be interesting to see what others would do in this situation.

I had been cleaning  2 detached bungalows 4 weekly for over a year. They praised me for always being there every 28 days in the morning.  1 of the bungalows has some leaded windows and she said I took more care than the previous window cleaners.

They were due to be cleaned on Monday March 30th and because of Covid19 I called all my customers 3 days before to let them know I am still coming on schedule and will be practising social distancing, as usual leave the payment under the plant pot or pay by bank transfer if you prefer.
She was surprised I was still coming. I said I had lost my commercial work but will carry on with the domestic as I do not need to come into contact with them.

Sunday the 29th March she called me to say the neighbour is going to jet wash their drive on the 30th so can I not clean their windows tomorrow, "I promise I will call you back" she said.

I have just had a missed call from her, so she has missed 4 cleans and 2 weeks.
I assume she is going to ask if I can clean her and  her neighbours windows.

What would you do?

I would clean but with a first clean charge on top, I imagine the last 4 months have been quite scary for the older generation, she probably now feels more comfortable having someone on her property now that lockdown is all but over.

Yes I would clean but at a bespoke price first time, somewhere between 2.5 to 4 times regular price - they would also get a % increase generally

Congrats on your decision - whatever you decided

Are you saying she has missed a few cleans due to COVID and you are now joining her back in,if she was old I’d give her the benefit of the doubt and join her back in.
Personally I wouldn’t charge her anymore on top if she was good before.

Just add them back in and charge double first clean and don’t give it another thought.

Mate, for one customer does it really matter in the grand scheme of things with all this covid 19 business.
Fit her back in and either charge a slightly higher first clean price or just charge as normal knowing she will go back to whatever schedule she had before and all is good

What sort of extra money are we talking here for a 'first clean' price? An extra couple of bob?

Just go and clean 'em, give over, they're old folk.

You haven’t cleaned it for about 3 months I do some 3 month cleans and they are fine just a few more cobwebs,if it was me I’d want no extra if it was genuine if I felt someone was taking the pee that would be different but it doesn’t sound like that.

50 %  more, first clean.

Give them another chance, weird world we’re living in.

I had 4 customers take a powder for a few months.

Only 2% ish of my round thankfully.

How do you work that one out? Given that they haven’t been cleaned since the beginning of March, they’re gonna be dirty.

Yeah but in the grand scheme of things I do 3 monthly’s all the time they ain’t that bad compared to 6 weekly tbh,is it because I use hot maybe I don’t know probably but it’s nice to be nice sometimes they could have always said don’t bother anymore so at least they seem genuine.

You’ve had a missed call from her , so she could be ringing to let you know she’s found someone else seen as though you’ve not contacted her to ask if she wants to carry on. Don’t assume this missed call means anything, if you need the job do it. If not then dump her.

I'd be particularly heavy handed with the leaded one. That'll stop them praising you for turning up. In the morning.

Same as previous poster said if old id prob just do it same price as before but any messing going forward id drop. Maybe things in Ireland are different but if I tried to charge a custy 2.5/4 normal rate for 1st clean  id be sitting at home a lot 🙈

No issue whatsoever. I'd just clean them, normal price, no problem.

I'm with Shrek. You should have contacted her, for the May and June cleans.

Ignore the fact she's going to contact you, she probably forgot!

Just go and clean them, get them done, move on!
