Just want some opinions on rotary machines that I can add weight to for grinding and polishing? The only one I know of is the Wirbel. I currently have two victors and a truvox but they are all light weight.

What does everyone use, and has anyone got any for sale?

What's your budget Neil, I could have a Rocky for sale soon. Good machines as are the Wirbels.

The Wirbel costs more than the Rocky

It is important to remember that in order to grind a floor successfully you need metal sintered diamonds and ultimately speed so this means at least 1000 rpm so this rules most standard mono rotary machines out.

If however you or anyone else insists on believing that a Mono Rotary is sufficient to grind and you insist on adding weight to try and compensate for speed then you need to realise that you are going to require torque as well so as well as the rpm of the machine the size and power of the motor needs to be taken into account.

You can actually add 2 x 5kg weights to the underneath of the Klindex Rocky which takes its weight to a total of 57Kg

I can supply weight kits for truvox orbis 200.

It won't bring it into same league as rocky and Wirbel but will beef up performance.

What tasks are you looking to do with your rotary?

We run wirbels victor Trojans and truvox orbis machines.

Our preference is the Wirbel for restoration work and the orbis for cleaning maintenance and light stripping of resilients. The victor Trojan we use outdoors.

Totally understand!  The offer was a general one not just to get you to buy one.  Let me know your budget and I will see what is around.  All I would say is don't expect too much for not a lot of money.

I want a 17 inch one. I've been looking at the Trojan. I've already got a victor standard speed 11'' and 15'' and a truvox 13'' (I think, I've never measured it and don't know the model), it's faster than the rest though, around 240rpm I think. Maybe to small Jamie to justify purchasing weights for it.
I need something for cleaning and polishing hard floors, something I can add weight to if need be.
My first choice probably would be the Rocky, then Wirbel, then Victor.
I'm looking for a deal because I've spent way way to much recently and I'm looking at getting a second van next month. Ill probably deal with what I have now and save, the victor did a decent job the other night but its been hammered and is too light.

Why not trade one of the old machines in and split the payment into 2 halves if it helps?  Ring me on 0121 705 5333 if you want to discuss or e mail me at

Another very important point as far as I am concerned is, on any Mono Rotary Machine the Motor needs to be centrally mounted and not offset....!

The two reasons for this are that:

1.   The machine is well balanced and therefore polishes evenly
2.   It is very difficult with an offset motor to work in Utilities and under kitchen units where the plinths are or even under radiators when you can only get the machine in one way!

sounds like your truvox is a trophy compact 300 or an orbis compact so not suitable really.

We use a trophy compact for staircases.

Interesting points them Kev, never really thought of that. Let me work out how much I realistically have and i'll call or email. Jamie I think it is the trophy, I use it every now and again, i've got the yellow brush on it.

I use a Numatic Nuspeed NR1500S Standard Speed Floor Machine

40 kg takes an extra 10kg weight seems ok for most general duty's never used diamonds with it.

How would a Rocky or Wirbel improve on the Numatic?

Mark

Everyone has to choose what they are comfortable with and I will repeat again none are really suitable for grinding and honing effectively and that includes the Rocky.  Other than that:

The Numatic you mention

1.  It costs £965 plus the cost of the additional weight.

http://www.rgk.co.uk

2.  The handles are very small making it uncomfortable if you need to use it for long periods.
3.   The tank is smaller than the Rocky (More Pit Stops)
4.   It doesn't have a metal gearbox so the build quality isn't the same and is therefore unlikely to last at least 5 Years

So for the same money I would choose the Klindex Rocky every time especially given the offer for CIU Members at the moment!

However, most will say I am biased because I sell them and use them!  I agree I am biased!!  However I did think very carefully before I sold all my Wirbels and changed them for the Klindex Rockys

Agree although very compact, uncomfortable for longer periods, only paid £200 inclusive for a recon unit two years back. Look forward to it giving up the ghost then I can justify a Rocky.

Not super rich yet keep spending it on new toys like Antony said just ordered the ufo.. The levighator is on a different planet for grinding and polishing marble and limestone best thing ive bought and the back up from Kev and Antony is first class.
Also been using the Rocky now for over a year gone through a few brushes with the honing powder but now the new brush system is available its not too bad on the pockets, would I put weights on it or any other rotary to grind a floor NO!! But for stripping floors or honing and polishing with powders its a great machine with a massive tank which is a godsend on some big jobs.
So the Klindex machines get a massive thumbs up from me.

When you get your new toy:  Here is a photo of it

http://www.klindex.it/ufo-p-505.html

You need to reserve yor Edge Grinder Next

Then you want this:

And when you really are an Expert ultimately you are going to need one of these:
