Update:

Now sat at 275 Customers on GoCardless.  Really want to finish the year on 300!

Some Customers who were adamant they were not going to sign up to GoCardless i found a way to encourage those kinds of customers to sign up.  Im now offering any existing customer that signs up a £10 discount on their next clean.  So far it's working a treat.  Dont care how much it costs, i just want all customers on GC longterm.

Might have to do a final push and get some new customers in to hit my 300 Target!

The reason why i am continuing this thread is it keeps me accountable to hit this goal which i put off for literally 2 years!

Final update before end of the year  ;D

well done Josh

i'm never a fan of discounting people for switching or reviews or whatnot... but if its working for you and you're happy with it thats great

Hey mate!

Nice one, good work 👍

Have you found your cash flow is a lot better now and saves you a ton of time reconciling payments?

Our Debt list is 50% less now than it was a year ago.  It has helped massively with cash flow.  Its also helped tighten up with the bad/slow payers still on BACs, naturally eliminating some of those.  Also admin time is probably 25% of what it used to be chasing payments or noting down who has or hasnt paid via BACS.

For me wanting an easier life this is definitely helping to reduce the admin side of things.  I know a few cleaners who are 100% GoCardless and they literally dont spend any time chasing payments or sending reminders.  If only!!!   :)

well they don't need paying.

as you know i'm 100% DD and none of them needed a discount to get there. they just needed persistent pressure.

but if you're happy to pay them, or its the best option for you to get it done with the least hassle, that's OK too

great result either way

You can ofcourse still get non payers with Gocardless.

My calculation with it was that at any one time I’d have the same amount awaiting payout as I have in my debt list. Typically it’s a week’s revenue at any time showing as a debt which ofcourse is the time Gocardless take to pay out so it makes no difference to cash flow.

But…. The time it takes now to reconcile payments is a pain in ar8e.

Well just about managed it!  As of today 302 Customers on GoCardless.  So im happy with that.  Hit my goal if nothing else.  Next year think ill finally go after the cash payers and just keep slowly converting customers over.

Either way managed to get over 50% on GC so im more than happy with that massively helped with cashflow and reduced the debtlist.

If you want to 100% direct debit you need to get a deal where you can sign customers up. I believe gocardless is about £200 to do that, if you are computer savvy (Excel especially) you can get a much better deal. I'm with smart debit. It takes me about an hour a week to process about 400 direct debits manually, four hours to do 1500 - 2000 per month. It's not for the faint hearted but I pay 1/2 what I would on gocardless.

Being able to sign customers up over the phone, even if they have no email address, is worth its weight in gold especially during covid.

I have customers who I've cleaned for 20 years - always paid cash or cheque - now direct debit after a two minute phone call.
Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it - George Orwell

I offered a free clean to about 200 customers if they switched to GC, only about 30 took up the offer so it shows lots still just dont like the idea or the incentive wasnt enough.

Why don't you, say due to bank charges and admin you will have to add £3 to each clean, unless they sign up to gocardless?
