For Sale Sections
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:15:22 pm »
I see we now have a forsale section for each board, plus the origonal one.
The way i have read it the 3 new sections you will have to pay to list an item,
but no mention of a charge in the usual for sale  section.
Is this correct.  :(

Luckily most of us have added each other on facebook, and there are also other forums where it is
free, will this efect cleanitup, i have noticed it is much quieter of late, and busier on facebook,
or is it just because Shaun has become a Moderator   ;)  ;D

Andrew.

The forum has a lot of traffic and from this sells advertising

Charging us for selling stuff isn't a great idea in my opinion

Free for 3 months then a "small" charge.

Die on its arse or not you would be advertising to an audience who would/should be interested in what you are selling and have some knowledge of the industry........or you could put it on ebay have some hopefuls bid on it, sale falls through, do it all again...... and in the end pay your ebay fees.

It makes me laugh that some people will throw their weight around and make other forum members look small and cheap for looking for a cheap vac/ pump/ anything to save a few bob but when someone mentions charges to sell a bit of kit they start to throw their toys around and are full of negativity!!!!!!!!

I doubt the forum runs for free by itself Jim, as i am sure you dont run your business that way.

Only time will tell if it works our not but we don't pay to post on the Carpet Cleaning section that's free, it was once courted that members would pay for a more selective forum and that was from members not admin.

So are you saying Shaun that we advertise stuff on this section so it dosnt incur a charge or would it be moved ?
Could we mention on here that we are thinking about selling an item, saving us a few bob,
or would that not be allowed either ?

I have bought and sold loads on here and its usually the first section I go to but if the forum needs money to run then an income has to be made.

I agree it will be difficult to manage, maybe folk peed off cause its always been free,
if they origonally knew it would end up with 23.5k members, they could of charged a yearly subscription and ran the forum from a beach in the Bahamas.

I have met folk when on courses who have never posted on here, yet look into the forsale section and buy off it, and never give any info back to the forum.

Tony, not sure if you're aware but this isn't the only cleaning forum!!  I certainly don't use all of them out there but have 7 in my favourites!  No other forums charge their users to advertise their own second hand kit for sale, and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future.

Charging for posts in the for sale section is stupid and ill-thought out.  It just won't attract any significant business because people can get the same thing for free elsewhere (of course there will be some paid-for posts, by people who haven't got a clue and don't know any better.  Really ethical that, bordering on a scam if you ask me.)

Unless this is an early April fools joke?  ;)

Let's keep dishing out the business lessons then.... :)

Of course this forum doesn't run for free, but it doesn't exactly cost an arm and a leg to register a domain name and pay for server space.  I'm not well up on hosting charges etc, maybe someone with some better knowledge on that could fill in the blanks, but this forum would need X amount of disk space and Y amount of bandwidth.... even if it cost £100 a month that's diddly squat.

You know those adverts you see at the top and bottom?  Uhmmmmm well they probably cover the server costs plus a hefty amount more.... so where is the money going to from the good honest users who have to pay just for selling a wand for £50 or something?  It's a scandal!

If the owner of this forum had the slightest bit of sense he'd integrate it more into his business and write off the cost against the increased revenue gained... now where have I seen that business model before???? ;D ;)

Sorry for sitting on the fence earlier Colin, hopefully you can see which side I'm on now? :D

If you use Ebay you pay a listing fee  and a sales fee.

For years people have been able to plug their ebay auction on here and end up getting a much higher price.

Looks like those days have gone.

Tony, the point is that forums are the kind of things that are offered as a FREE to use service for certain communities... if the owner wishes to recoup revenue for their running they should do it in ways other than charging their users to use it!

Missed your reply dan, thanks for the support, it's their attitude that stops other new members contributing for fear of being shot down in flames which is not good but the mods let the behaviour go, not that I need anyone to defend me but apart from Jim who is intelligent and does make worthwhile posts the others are just part of "the pack" like bullies. Nothing worthwhile to say but just put others down but if that's how they get off good luck to them.

wether charging is right or wrong i think it will be detrimental to ciu. less people will put goods up for sale because of the fee which will mean less people coming on here for a nosey, which in turn will put off advertisers which i guess is a good revenue. forums seem to forget there main oposition is facebook and twitter, few guys on here ask why we want carpet cleaners as friends on our facebook, well thats my answer. i get just as good info off facebook as i do off here and throwing even the smallest spanner in the works will only speed up the inevitable, the forums demise.

my advice, charge those that make money off us, don't charge those that make this forum what it is. after all, "we" are your bread and butter.

not saying i'm right, but its food for thought.

As for Paul Moss, you have to learn to take him with a pinch shovel full of salt... he is a naughty scamp and likes to push peoples' buttons... I used to bite, and he and the gang used to get a good rise out of me... but you learn to just accept it's just screwing around and it's very easy to take the mickey from behind a computer keyboard ;)

Maybe start a new poll on this one.

Good idea or not.

I'd say not as most of us use other forums and would simply post in their for sale sections. This could ultimately lead to reduced traffic on this site over time and thus have a negative effect.

I find it really annoying that they have split the for sale section into seperate parts. I used to like browsing through the forsale section to see what "everybody" had for sale now you have to look in loads of sections.

Put it all back in one place please.

Don't care if they charge to post on it, if they do, i just won't post there and post it somewhere else where it is free like most will

Cheers Goron

Shaun isn't thrifty, Scots are thrifty, as a fellow Yorkshire man I can confirm the definition of a Yorkshire man is a Scot with the generosity squeezed out of him  :D

And that was only because they held him upside down to empty his pockets (after cutting the padlocks first)  ;D

Just add some SPM then you wouldn't have to spend as much on teeth whitening products.    8) ;D
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.
