Title: Furthest you'd travel to work?
Post by: Plankton on January 10, 2018, 09:12:02 pm
I used to travel around 30 miles which took around 45mins-1hour. Sold the majority of my work to five different people over the last 3 years and now looking to buy a round but so I'm interested to know what folks consider to be a reasonable distance to travel.

For some lucrative commercial we travel 180 miles , but generally don’t go more than 25 miles for most work

6.5 mile is my furthest just now and anything in decent areas that's been coming up is 20-35 miles away.

All mine is within about 5 miles or so.

However im looking further affield this year as ive exhausted all the decent areas nearby.

I would probably travel up to 45 mins for the right work, but i dont think ill go that far

Furthest away work is 12 miles, 90% of my work is within a 2 mile radius of my house.

most of my work is 5 miles away but some its 10-15 miles.

id say no more than 15 miles.....any longer distances and your day just gets eaten up with driving, traffic jams, etc.not to mention diesel costs and wear and tear on the van.

My furthest work is 25 miles away.

It's a straight run, steady 60mph all the way so it blows the cobwebs away and it's a decent day's work too.

I've recently moved from the center of my round, everything was previously in a 7 mile radius. My furthest work is now 12 miles away.

180 miles?blimey......no work would be worth travelling that far for(for me).your fuel bill must be massive(with having a diesel heater as well).

I think the answer to that is it depends if you can make enough profit.

Years back i had a large contract with Total before they went back to france and sold thier operations in the uk.

I used to start at 5:00 AM in central london and work my way down to Portsmouth and Chichester cleaning every shop window on the way inside and out till midnight. It was a long day, and a lot of traveling but I'd end up with a sizeable wedge of £20 notes by the end of that day. That lasted 4 years before Gerald Robson purchased the business back from total and sold off the individual stores.

As one of my spin off from one of those stores in Farnham i built up a seperate window cleaning roud there too and used to travel from woking to farnham. I ended up with quite a large amount of work there in the end but traffic was becoming a major issue so i sold that work off to a member on this forum.

Now i am just concentrating on work that i can get started on in less than 20mins.

Believe me it is worth it as I said very lucrative job but sadly only 2 days  8 times a year

Misread the question. How far would I travel. Anywhere if the deal was right. At present 12 miles but if (say) I had an all day job paying about £400 plus I would happily drive an hour each way to get there so 40 - 60 miles in that case.

I doubt I will consistently work over £160 on windows, £120 then a break then a little bit more, now and then have a look on here then look at the latest Dembele £££'s... Any more and it seems like hard work.
I would  need to take someone on to hit 400 on windows and work an extra couple of hours a day! Even then I doubt it would be consistent.
