You won't really know if you're correctly inshored unless you have a problim.

I was looking at hot water regulations that concern trades that need to transport gas in a vehicle. What I read, I think it was from the Calor Gas website, that the same regulations apply to trades such as ourselves and plumbers as do for those who transport gas for pleasure purposes, such as caravan owners.

Its once you get above a certain amount of gas transported that stricter regulations com win to force. And of course more dangerous gases.

You won't really know if you're correctly inshored unless you have a problim.

This is what i found if you ask the insurance company direct questions they will not give a definative yes or no and would not commit anything to paper - so erring on the side of caution i id rather not use gas esp. as i employ

I don't know the ins and outs but things like turning the gas off when driving, isolating the cylinder, gas safe fitting, co2 possibilities, warning stickers, proper ventilation etc etc means I can't be arsed with it any more.

im with aplan and i asked they said its fine but i had to tell them the size gas bottol wich is a 13 kilo one they said ur fine as long as u tell them and also i asked if i could install it my self and again they said yes as long as its fixed in the van

leaving the doors open is fine when in use as the gas just goes out in the air i allways turn the gas off when im not using it ie driving to the next job ect i love my heater and would not wana work with out it now

Really I'm with them they always have seemed very strict about WFP setups when I've spoke to them in the past,they told me unless it's bolted down they don't want to know and this was last year they said hey wouldn't insure anything with ratchet straps.

Out of curiosity what's the name of the actual company you are insured with on your insurance policy doc's NWH?

I'll check later I was going to get a new van so I thought for the time being I'd strap a tank down so I could get started quicker with the new van they said if I do that I won't be insured,I said I know loads of WCs that do this and they are insured he went on to explain they wernt or won't be if they have a claim. I'm not proclaiming to know this is what he told me and he read out a short list of companies that insure for our job the list was short,he reckons there are dozens that don't declare a strapped down tank or do an online application and don't include a tank for WFP that's why they get the insurance.

First full day with the immersion tank today -very pleased. No insulation around the tank and admittedly the air temperature is still pretty high. Started at 30 degrees water temp and still warm when I packed up.
2KW is a bit underpowered for 650l but looking foward to the cold days.
5.5 hours - about £1.50 I think.

i dont insulate our tanks they stay warm all day long even close to freezing but we do start warmer at 37 to 40 degrees

13 amp fused plug but I have Arctic flex to the element and 20a connectors, because I had some knocking about the garage. 2KW isn't that high a draw on current so should be much safer than normal immersion elements which are 3KW.

ive used both and i much prefer the L10 matt.ive had no pressure problems with the L10.

How are you getting on with the 2kw immersion Dave?

Lovin it. 30degrees and stays warm all day. Added an hour on the timer tonight so see if it gets any warmer tomorrow. Can easy fit a 3kw at a later date with the flange screwed in the tank but would need to do a proper wiring job to take the load.

The law has changed as from this October  it`s up to your broker to ask you about gas you do not have to imform him if he does not ask. its new its law and its fact.

Im thinking of going down same route. This sounds good and since my tank is insulated n only 500ltr. This sounds great and easy to install. Where did you end up getting the 2kw heater n flange nut from?

I've not tried the L10 yet but find a Fastar 8L works well for me.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-8L-Gas-LPG-Propane-Tankless-Instant-Hot-Water-Heaters-Boilers-2800Pa-/221816162851?hash=item33a5460a23

The fastar 8L at 16kw is more than adequate for my needs. Basically the larger the heater you get the more flow is required to fire it up.  However I found with that one is just right for on demand wfp work without having to run a bypass back to the tank.

With all these types of portable gas water heaters it's worth metioning to make sure you drain them down if not in use as frost/sub zero temps will knacker them.  That's if you don't have some sort of adequate frost protection in the back of the van.

You don't need to bother worrying about frost with them you can now use heatwave controllers on them they've added a frost feature for gas heaters now you just need to set the flow about 10 on the controller

I know I've seen them but it's just as easy for me just to drain and take the heater indoors if need be.

Might be that I don't trust a frost protection function and I don't particularly like the thought of a gas water heater running at night while I'm sound asleep. What if it don't cut in for some strange reason like you forget to set it, the pump battery fails, ignition batteries fails, run out of gas etc etc.

To be honest it only takes seconds to drain my gas water heater so convince me would should I bother spending 200 squid on another controller with a frost function that may or may not work?
