Citroen Berlingo 600 to 800, how?
« on: August 13, 2007, 10:32:49 am »
Hi, I bought recently a Citroen Berlingo '97 600, but I kinda need the 800kg payload, I heard somebody say to only change the back springs. Is this true and does anyone have experience with it?

Thanks.

You may want to also check the specification of the tyres!

Well you can do it with trailers so i carnt see why not with a van..

I have a combo and my payload on a DI van is 595 but.. if you co for the model on there site vauxhall.co.uk called 2000 its got side door etc.. that has a payload of 743kg and there the same van exactly

Don`t worry about the payload just don`t put anymore than 400ltrs in it trust me anymore in a van that size is to much.I have a new LWB connect and have 500ltr tank, when full you know it and regardless of what the payload says i think 500ltrs is to much for any van smaller than your traffic-vivaro type van.My van had it`s first service on saturday and has only done 12000mls,put it this way i don`t drive like a maniac but i needed 2 new front tyres, that kind of weight in a van that size will eat the tyres.

In my opinion 300ltrs would be enough for that van, like i said forget the payload you`ve got to drive it to know that it can handle it regardless of what it tells you on a bit of paper. My vans paperwork says i could probobly carry more if i wanted to but 500ltrs to me seems to much,i only fill mine right up when i`m close to the first job.

Yer i agree.. need to feel safe.

Im going 2 find out about the springs with my van. Because with my dad workin in vauxhalls there all done on the same line! and 1 van has 595kg and other 743kg...

I mite get mine uprated once i get wfp! thats not so i can max it out and carry a full 400ltr or more i just dant want to max out the van  2 much ::)

Vauxhall vans the smaller variety just have plain old car springs,i`ve had vauxhall vans loads of em and they have all had springs or shocks go on them. That`s why there called car derived vans, not man enough get a bigger van that`s meant for carrying loads not tools. :-* :-* :-* :-*

Sorry for the late reply, yea it might be around 300l max that I can carry, likely even less then that. After holiday I'm gonna pop over to my local private Citroen/Peugeot experts garage, not the dealer, and ask what they think. :)

The vauxhalls are not the same. They have a up graded suspension and larger brake discs at the very least. Dont forget it is not just about  the suspension carrying the extra weight, you will need to stop the van and with a heavier payload the better brakes you will need.

Ah that's fantastic! So they can do it. Great. Do you have any idea what they changed? If I get some spares, I bet I could get it done for less. :)
