What am I doing wrong ? Help !!
« on: May 08, 2014, 03:10:26 pm »

Did the following to this pool area but results are still not what i wanted:

1. Pressure wash full pressure, hardly touched it
2. Hypo 3-1 left 30 mins,same again
3. Hypo 2-1 left an hour, made a tiny difference
4. Hypo 50/50 left an hour,slight improvement
5. Hypo neat left 2 hours, better result but still marked

Client was well pleased but I was very disappointed with the results.

Any advice  please guys what I did wrong or should have done.

Thanks

How old was the Hypo you was using
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

I can't really see the problem. Have you left a load of black spot.

I have hardly ever used chemicals and there has been only a couple of times where I felt like you do - could have done better.

Like your photo it was because there was overhanging trees, possibly an area that held damp, not getting the sun at all.

Sometimes 15LPM is just not enough oomph mate. The lads who use chemical will be able to say better than me.

Looks ok and the main thing is that the customer was happy.

Improving the result - maybe that particular set of circumstances it wasn't able to be improved.

You have done the hypo, you have used the turbo nozzle after trying the FSC, with what you have possibly can't do anymore.

Go over it again, let the hypo dwell more?

If the client is happy and you get paid you cant ask for any more!

I did one yesterday similar to that and couldnt get all the black out of it either but like you the customer was happy and got a nice tip!

Are you going back to point the gaps? Nice little add on and nice and easy on york stone.  ;D

How long does it take to point a 25m2 area? How much would you charge? It's not for me but be interested to know may to pass the work on to someone local and take commission.

Tony, what was the outside temp when you put the hypo down. Hypo will not be effective in the cold and/or keep the surface damp . Ed

Depends on the paving, size of gaps, does it need grinding out first, it would probably be better finding someone local who wants the work then agree day rates.
I try and do 2 or 3 small pointing jobs in a day, one mix in the morning for the day. I like to do pointing on a Friday because I need a lie in the next day!

It's got nothing to do with flow rates, dwell times or hypo %, or the outside temperature in outer mongolia! ........ it's a crap job with the wrong surface for that type of area.

This is basic stuff that as a "cleaner" you should be assessing when looking at the job....along with water supplies ,drainage etc.

The sandstone never drys out and is "rotting" hence the black thats internally stained the stone.
Who the f*** lays block round a swimming pool....tiles or concrete.
Look at the state of the pool....they need regular shock chlorine treatment when in such surroundings.
Which 3 year old laid the sandstone patio...worst job I have ever seen. Look at the slab and joint sizes ... they cant even get the top right. Let alone plan the subbase ,drainage and surface choice.

We are to clean Chris not tell them how crap it has been built. This surface may not have been cleaned for xxx amount years so with regular maintenance cleans it will get better. Pressure , dwell times , hypo percentage , temperture all do play an important part to achieve the goal.

I have no doubt that this will get cleaner with regular maintenance.

My own patio was worst than this . Now it is perfect with a little perseverance.

Accept ,  that on this job it has to fall within the budget for both parties . Ed

The surface/stone look's more like Yorkstone then Indian Sandstone from what I can see on the photos.
Agree with some of what Chris say's, poorly pointed, uneven gaps etc. block paving around swimming pools, I know a pain we have a couple we do, why anybody has block paving as a patio or in the rear garden at all baffles me.

I would tell them it needs cleaning 3 times a year to maintain the natural beauty of the fine carefully selected surfaces the contractor has used.

Tony, your hypo is fine then if fresh. If you are doing other work on site then just pre wet and spray on . When was it last cleaned if ever ? Ed
