adseal rycal block paving sealer anygood?
« on: October 27, 2015, 06:44:11 pm »
hi

i've got a block paved drive to seal. i normally use the smartseal acrylic sealer but notice on ebay there's adseal rycal much cheaper. has anyone used this before, is it the same stuff and quality.

also the customer wants a matt or satin finish. is matt and satin finishes just more solvent and less acylic, and hence offer less protection?

The Adseal products are ok…why change if you are used working with  the Smatseal sealer?
It is also too late in the year for sealing with solvent sealers.

hi chris

is was only that is was that much cheaper.

yeah i was worried about wether it was getting a bit late in the year. i quoted the job with an optional extra of sealing at her request a couple of months ago. she rang and said could i come and clean it and at the end of cleaning it she asked when i was returning to seal it, so i'm a bit stuck.

i've not used it before, can i use their "eco friendly solvent free" sealer if its a bit dampish? or any suggestions of alternative products?

There is always a reason things are  "much cheaper"  Adseal do manufacture in house …Smartseal do not maybe that is why. Generally speaking tho' I am always a little wary of sealers that are "cheap".
Ad seal and smartseal…also do a waterbased sealer. This would be a safer option at this time of year…take into account whilst they are more tolerant of moisture they still need time to cure. Wash it one day seal it on a dry "windy" day if possibly.
Kev martin can order you  a waterbased acrylic that is "cheap" we have used it with reasonable results…it is tolerent to "application abuse".

Hi,
I have used Adseal sealers and find them quite good.
The Rycal range has less solids than their Adseal Super Sealer which is the one I use.
I only use a roller to get a really good coat down which I think gives a better finish and with less mess.
I have also coated over previous jobs without any problems.
It is too late to use solvent sealer as others have said. I haven't used their waterbased sealer yet. They have a help line which is handy for advise when needed.
