travelling with Leisure batteries
« on: June 11, 2005, 07:40:41 pm »
The trolley system I am building is too high to travel upright in either the escort van or the small box trailer. I'v been advised not to travel with the battery on it's side. I am thinking of putting it in a box on swinging arms, it could then pivot to the upright position when I put the trolley in flat. How have you guys got round this one without taking the battery off the trolley all together? Dai

I've got Peter Fogwill's trolley with a foldaway handle - I have modified it to allow an 85amp/hr leisure battery to sit in a tray (made from an old metal baking tray) in it's base and I lift the trolley and battery in and out of the car (Honda Accord Estate - a bit smaller than a Mondeo but rather bigger than an Escort) complete. Together they weigh 20kg.

(Although I could easily lift the battery out if I'm feeling weak!)

The key to height reduction is in the foldaway handle. You can see it on Peter's Aquatec site.
It's a game of three halves!
