Title: Prices! How do u do it?
Post by: nathankaye on June 02, 2019, 02:52:58 pm
Interesting thread, maybe for new one?

So, how do you guys price up your Jobs, either windows or any of the various add on jobs?

A).    Per individual job?
B).    Windows--  price per window?
C).    Work to earn £ per hour basis?
D).    Base rate for particular jobs and then add £ per
          variable on top
On some of the threads, many have touched on pricing strategies,

Myself,  for windows I have a base rate, ie minimum price and this is for a basic two up two down house. For conservatories I add an extra min charge of £5 on top for a small two side conservatory.  A larger three side accessible to clean is £10 min add on.
I then add extra for more windows, access to windows ect etc.

Add on jobs,  pressure washing for instance, I don't charge per metre square.  I have a base rate in mind, for various size drives based on time to clean and then I add pending various factors.

In additional jobs etc, I always factor in material costs/business costs as well.  (only me tion this as I have seen adverts on Facebook and the likes and you wonder how they meet their business costs on such quotes that have been given, never mind a business profit)

Love hearing the word ‘firm’ so old school 😂

Didn’t read your post Nathan (Couldn’t be bothered)

Have read title though, and my preference is to charge as much as I think I can get away with.

By house type.

All my leads come in via social media or over the phone. I ask what type of house they have, any conservatory etc then just guess.

Never really drove out to quote, two thirds of all quotes are not accepted so would be a huge waste of time.

Area has a lot to do with pricing as well.
The same house in two different areas could well have to be priced differently. That would knock the pricing per window on the head.

For the last couple of years I have tried to push  £10 for a standard 3 bed semi with mixed results. £10 was just over the perceived value of a window clean in East Teesside where we operate. The further East we go the lower the perceived price. For example, in Loftus £5 is the perceived price for a 3 bed semi and £6 if there is a conservatory.
I don't have any work in Loftus now.
That perceived price hasn't changed in 10 - 12 years.

Minimum price on small houses, count of the windows & doors as I can estimate the time. The ones I struggle with but do end up getting right anyway are houses with big glass extensions as it’s totally different to just counting 1 window.

I just count the amount of windows, how difficult they are to get to/difficulty of house and the time it will take.

I count on ones fingers. If you’ve got six on each hand like Nathan I guess you make more money?

Yep, that's why I'm not working today or tomorrow!!
I've enjoyed a long wknd off work, plus the numerous bank Holidays during the month of May.
So enjoy your working day, snatching ten mins or so to frequent this forum rather than being productive and what for? A little sarcy comment 😂😂
Keep it up lads, it makes for good reading I suppose.

Oh how I love keeping things simple.  ;D

I can agree with some of that,,,,, especially when I ai t done that  ;D
I like DIY, what can I say......... I always have, esp when who other than fellow shiners give a hoot as to what's in the back of your van,,,,,,, that makes me laugh.

Tit for tat though isn't it on here.  Someone insults them when not called for, they obviously retaliate if they want to and then everyone else joins in. It really doesn't seem to take much for that to happen on here for some reason......

not every one - there is a hub of great people on here that do not continually need to mention the same thing time and time again  ;)

Ohh I don't know, think most on here have sussed most people's perceived personalities on here, as let's face it, there's only about ten to twenty, if that, which actually contribute in one way or sarcastic/fault finding way on a regular basis.

I hope this was said tongue in cheek Nathan? Keeping things simple is exactly the opposite of what you do. In fact I’ve never known someone to over complicate every single simple task like you do.  ;D

I keep things simple and rounded up. Jobs priced starting at £10 and going up in increments of 5. I don't go counting windows etc. I just have a knack now of knowing  how long a job will take and what I want for it.

OK, slight exaggeration, but in my defense, take into account half terms and ur kids off school, it feels like an endless amount of times off, including being off work.

You do take a lot of time off don’t you- is there not enough customers to highly recommend one ☝️ so one can build their round? Maybe get some advice from that newbie James Pryor - he gained 30 customers super quick!  :D

Some want to think within the confines of the norm. Others like Lee for instances think bigger and outside the box.
You lot like to say what can't be done, that you don't consider the possibilities of what can be done.

Fair enough but it's not as bad as Easter or the summer holidays.

But, guys, this thread isn't about me or how I price. There's been mention of pricing on a number of threads or price per hour etc etc and there are a number of new ones active on here or just reading from the safe distance of their screen so they don't get ribbed on here.  The thread is just to give different ideas and variations and not just one person's view.
