You shouldn't use your pump without the pressure switch unless you use a controller

If you use a controller, you may need to adjust your cal setting
If just pump then you may need to adjust your pressure setting (tosh had posted a pic of how to do this a week or two ago

By the sounds of it though, you may just have an air lock.
Disconnect the pipe from your hose reel and switch your pump on full whack. Try having the pipe lower than your pump while doing this and 10-15 seconds (if not less) later your pump should kick in...

It's dead easy to replace a pressure switch.  It'd take someone who knows what they're doing about ten minutes.  The first time you do it, about twenty.  It really is simple; even a Geordie could do it (I'm a Geordie).

Ben, order a new pump, just in case your pump is broken, but also order a couple of pressure switches.

When the pressure switches arrive, change it, and if the pump works, you're good to go.  You could either return the pump (if the supplier allows this) or keep it as a spare.

If it's your pump that's broken, then you've got a new pump.
