Just wondered what other members would do here.A lady across the
Road from myself 8 doors down has spilt approximately 2 and a half
Liters of Magnolia emulsion paint on her newish slightly patterned
Green Axminster.The paint has gone right thru`the carpet,right thru`
The underlay and onto the wood floor. It has by now dried rock solid
Throughout. The area covered is about the size of a dinner plate. It`s
A couple of feet or so in from the skirting board in the living room.
Her insurance company has told her to get it cleaned.
I`m thinking, only thinking mind to `walk`away from it.They are neighbours
And I know them well.
Thanks for all comments ,help and advice.

Hi lewis
This is what I have done in the past in similar circumstances.
Write to your neighbour a report for her to submit to her insurance company setting out your findings. If you must, include a likely true cost of cleaning with some explanation of why it would cost so much and the likely (ie unsuccessful) outcome.
Include also a bill for the cost of your report. Your neighbour should also include this as part of her claim for a new carpet.
I've never yet had a client who hasn't been able to claim this back so that the client has only ever been out of pocket to the tune of their excess.
hope this helps.

Thanks Rog,that’s what I`m planning on doing. If the peoples insurance
Is`nt `what it might be`,which is something we never know, they`ll insist
On cleaning and hopefully pay for the work and finish `as it comes`.
If all insurance was `new for old`things would be much easier.
It`s the worst paint spillage I`ve come across.

Clean and accept `As It Comes`.

Hi Guys
The truoble with this is the backing as much as anything. With this amount of paint you could probably get rid of most if not al,l but what condition you would leave the carpet in is a big issue.
Cheers

Would you still want a carpet which has had a tin of paint spilt on it. I know I wouldn't. Annoys me that the insurance companies never learn. I've been doing stain removal and validations for them for getting on 12 years and they still ask you to go out and try a clean on incidents like this. Just adds cost as they always end up getting a new carpet anyway. No wonder our premiums are so high.
