Back Pack Vacuums
« on: May 19, 2011, 02:40:37 pm »
Hi everyone, just wanting to gauge peoples thoughts on Back Pack Vacuum Cleaners, are thier many people switching from tub vacs to Back packs?

How about upright vacuum cleaners, why do we see hotels using tub vacs in long corridors with large areas of carpet rather than an upright vacuum cleaner??

Would appreciate any comments.

Thanks

not used them but don't see the benefits of them over the standard ones unless you're cleaning somewhere that needs constant top up cleaning so something like that you could walk around large areas just checking for where it's needed. apparently they're good for stairs but i'd have thought they're less safe then 2 people vacuum a stairs as there's a heavy machine working away on your back which can throw you off balance

There are benefits to them.

They are good for large areas and are quicker then tub vacs. Its due to the item being on your back and you not pulling the tub along.

They are great for stairs and quicker

You can obtain good FLOW cleaning with them in most areas.

Disadvantage

The staff if they have not used them are very weary, training and getting use to them is an issue but easily over come with the right adaptation in place.

They are more expensive then the tubs. i.e. James is around £70+ vat Henry is around £86+vat back vac is around £120 - £230 +.

There are lots of reasons why some companies invest in the right equipment in the first place. It might be to save on labour costs.

They have the right market

Others may simply go for the cheaper machinery like tub vacs as they are cheap and easy maintained. It might also be the market or contracts they have in place do not allow them to invest in the equipment.

They might not realise also the right equipment will actually save money in the long run.

As for the tubs in hotels in long corridors instead of the uprights. The uprights are not as quick for cleaning the rooms. manoeuvrability is a big benefit.

Dave, thanks for your feedback really good to know what contract cleaners actually think of back pack vacuums. You are correct in saying the tub vacs are cheaper but in the long run using a back pack you will save on labour costs.

Gcs - thank you for your comment also. Some back pack vacuums on the market are under 5kgs, 5kgs on your back this isn't a massive weight, if worn correctly and with the use of the correct tools your back posture should remain in an upright position. Cleaners are thrown off balance when the user most commonly bends down this is then putting the back pack weight to the top of your back which then throws you off balance if shown correctly and with the correct tools this should never happen as mentioned above.

BDCS - Yes we do have a range of commercial vacuums and accessories but we are gauging cleaners thoughts always good to hear the end users comments.

I have had a look on your site a back vacs - Your model sells for £338

Truvox and other models would be cheaper at around £160.

You will have trouble selling at that price. We have back vacs but to reap the ROI back at £338 will take some doing.

Price is always a major factor
