Title: ?How to get training in the cleaning industry in scotland???
Post by: p4tsi on November 27, 2005, 01:10:01 am
How can one access official training in the cleaning industry without it costing a fortune?  BICS certification is quite simple but is a bit costly for an individual, it is also only available through the biggest cleaning companies, who tend not to answer your queries.  Surprising NOT!!!

I notice there are training agenencies througout england but none in scotland.

Small cleaning companies tend to say they have BICS on their promotional literature but if you ask for training they say "it is on the job" and no certification, on the job instruction is "just clean it".

I have worked for most of the big cleaning companies that tend to have in-house trainers, but they are always on sick leave or holiday.

I would like to start a training agency in Glasgow therefore can anyone help me out with the official training, I will work for the training and pay for the materials.

You can visit my website at:  http://ladybutlers.co.uk/

Well....Well....28 viewings so far but no suggestions or comments!!! Might I "assume" there is a problem with training all over or is the training a waste of time?   ::)

??? I do not understand the meaning of your comments james123? Is the nose bleed caused by smell or violence?

The next BICS meeting is 7 December in perth why not ask them if their is a less expensive way, I know their is a company around Glasgow that have their own in house training they may well offer packages to other companies.

James means that North of Newcastle is high up the country hence the nose bleed because of the latitude. BY the way looked at your web site very professional.well done.

;DThanks for replying George, I have tried these companies in & around Glasgow, I have been back to BICS website and will call them tommorow as I suspect it may be simpler than I envisaged.

;DHi Ian, Your not just tired but I do offer training as I have been in the cleaning industry for over 20 years, as a cleaner and at management level, I know how to clean!!! I know how to train but the certification is causing me concern as I am unsure of this route, I will conquer this battle eventualy.  I can see the problem from both sides and it is all down to training and qualification for cleaners, raise their standards, raise their moral, raise their pay and raise the negative impression people have of the cleaning industry.  Maybe i just live on another planet and the standards can't be raised.  City & guilds website is looking good for training in the cleaning industry so I am away to converse with them.  Have a nice day Ian ;D

P4

how did you manage to post as a guest ?

In addition to c/c I am also a partner in a domicilery care business, which is being plagued by legislation, on training and the requirement to have everyone trained, to ascending levels, of so called competency.

The reality, is, we went from a healthy solvent state, to damn near bankrupt, through the cost of training over the last 18 months.

I'm referring to training which has become a requirement and forced upon the industry even although the turnover of workers means that most never even complete the early stages of training.

You can take  Trainer courses which will allow you to carry out your own training,   but they are expensive.........

Another point...........you need, wit and personality, above knowledge to be a good trainer..........it's all about comunication skills..............I'd be a little concerned about you missing the very obvious comment about nose bleeds and your reaction to same.

I have years of experience which got me an invitation to become a lecturer at an f/e college............but I quickly discovered, that the most knowledgeable lecturer in the department couldn't teach, as he just shouted loudly and used the blackboard.

My classes were full of chat and laughter, but resulted in very high scoring in the ultimate test, end of year exams.

Another point.........becoming a teacher/trainer require an ability to research and source information..........if you need to find training courses, they exist and if you're suited to the task of being a trainer you will find them.........

Not intending to be negative, but, there are obvious routes you should be following and makes me wonder if training is really your forte.........

good luck
