Depending on how soft you may get away with just di resin
worthwhile testing with tds meter first

This might help.

Theres a formula for working out how much pure you will get out of resin. This is based on a 25ltr bag of resin.

Its this... 500000 divided by the TDS so say your TDS in is 50 you should get around 100000 ltrs of pure out of the 25 ltrs of resin.

Depending on what your TDS in is and how much water  you think or know you will use you can use that formula to work out whether or not a decent RO which should give you a 95 to 98% reduction in TDS is worth investing in. Personally I reckon at 30 or below at a usage of around 300ltrs per day I would just use the DI.

Cheers

if what you're asking is about the lowest tds level so you can use resin only I cant comment too accuratley because i dont use resin only but my tds in tap water is 430 and after the filters and its down to about 10 before the di resin so thats about the best that i can advise   ....     but there are others on here that have used and some still do use resin only  generaly scotland and cornwall /  somersett are the lowest regions

hope this helps

CHRIS: mixed bed resin is used mostly by wfpolers, they are mostly the same production of water.you can buy anion and cation resins which are kept seperate in di vessels then after about 6,000 litres they are recharged by using acid and  caustic soda, this is a system ive just bought of ebay more reading elga systems.
