New van advice.
« on: February 19, 2024, 06:12:43 pm »
Hi all
I currently have a hiace and looking to change vans. Would a 500L tank fit in a proace?
Also any opinions on this van would be appreciated.
Thank you

Yes we have a lwb proace with an Ionic’s thermopure 650 ltr system which is quite a big system a 500 ltr tank will easily fit in even in the swb

Do you use the ionics filter or do you use a standard one?

Ah. I've seen some on eBay before and the previous owner has ripped the ionics filter off and just has bog-standard profilers and 4040 ro.

Ionic’s own ros are rubbish a normal champ  type of 4040 is much better

You have a big choice. Proace, Dispatch, Vivaro and Expert are all made by PSA as is the Fiat Scudo.

I would tend to stay away from the Renault Trafic. A Mitsubishi van in Australia is a rebadged Renault Trafic and failed a recent Australian ncap crash test with a zero score. The ncap crash test on the Trafic was done a while ago in Europe to older standards, so it looks ok.

Absolutely. I have the  Berlingo 1.5 and it pulls a 450 litre tank no problem. You’ll want the 950kg payload though, I’d give the 650kg payload a miss.

I've had two 1.6 over ten years with 500ltr tanks and no problems. 95% of my driving is rural country roads.

Are you looking at a Berlingo or Dispatch?

IMO 1.6 Berlingo is OK but 1.6 Dispatch I believe the engine has to work too hard because of the size of the van. I am no expert but personally would stay away from 1.6 Dispatch.

If it’s pulling power you want then a VW T Roc is what you need.

Older 1.6 engines had a habit of seizing when the oil pick up sludged up.
The new 1.5 Berlingo etc pull really well and carry a huge amount of weight for a small van.
