Water proofing Van floor, What do you use ?
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:23:07 am »
Hey Guys,

Just a quick one:

What do you use on your van floors to water proof/protect it ?

Is it still protectakote or is there now something better ?

Line-X mate. Absolutely superb stuff. Won't be using protectakote again in a hurry.

£350 for LWB floor, and it looks good when applied and a quick wash and rinse and its like new again.

Really recommend it.

Where did you go to get that done? Is it similar to the stuff Ionics use?

Been there and done it,

Its ok, but it is alot of work, and it cant see an advantage over speedliner now.

I have used protektakote, and it wasnt as hard wearing as I want.

I paid £500, for my mwb sprinter to be speed lined, and it is worth every penny, such a nice looking product, and hard wearing.

Protect a coat is fine if you get the harder wearing one and do as per the instructions. have to leave it for a few days before using the van. Do it on a Friday and take Monday off.

It's also fine to put rubber mats over Protectakote - the coating will prevent pure water getting at the steel, and the mats will protect the coating from getting chipped/scratched.

I got protectacote as it was the only thing I could get hold of at short notice, however I must say its been fine. 6 months old and no signs of wear.

Just a thought but could you buy some 6 mm thick rubber matting, and then seal it round the edges with something like flash band as used on roofing. Saw some rubber matting on ebay fairly cheap.

I will have a new (ish) van arriving soon plus need to water proof my berlingo as its leaking into the front and I have a swimming pool under my seat.  :(
I am thinking of fiber glassing all the joints then protectakote the whole thing.
I used Protectakote once before and never had any trouble in the whole 5 years it was used.
