I've known quite a few people whose plan was to start to fully enjoy life when they retired. unfortunately things didn't work out that way. Life is a bit of a lottery no one knows what is round the corner!i'd sooner have a good quality life ( little stress and more flexibility) while I'm around than work like crazy and getting a buzz looking at my bank statement. having said that everyone has different priorities!

Interesting thread.

I set up the business in 2009 and didn't take any holiday, save a few days at Xmas one year until last year when we had a few days in Florence and a week in Tenerife. This was largely because I worked in the travel industry and was away several times a year on business (so had had my fill of travel), but also because, frankly, this job is a piece of cake with very little stress (certainly compared to what I used to do) and therefore I just didn't feel the need for a break.

Prior to taking the breaks last year I just worked whatever days necessary to keep on top of business. Given I don't work in anything more than light rain and I live in west Wales this usually meant that I had plenty of time off - I reckon I have 5 or 6 spare days for wet weather every month (so I can catch up), but then I count Saturday as a working day (as the wife works most Sats). Saying that I'm usually home by around 14:30 or 15:00 at the very latest, and some working days are only 3 hours long.  ;D We've no mortgage, so financial pressures are lessened, but do have a smallholding so need the time for that - this job suits me well. Wish I'd gone into it years ago.

We are saving now to do up the house - loads of work needed - but once that's done in around 3 years time i'll keep working as I do now, the wife will go part-time or come out with me and i'll be less concerned about winter weather, which has been horrendous this year for many of us. I'll be 53.

I'm going for a 4 day week not due to pressure of work or anything like that
a few things have happened to me over the last few years that have made me rethink the way i want to live and whats really important
the family being number 1 and the amount of time we spend together as the kids grow up

I really want to enjoy my life earning enough to do the things that are really important to us
working for myself in the window cleaning game gives me the opportunity to earn as little or as much as I want

I've been on a 4 day week since this year.
It's cracking.
Thursdays off and (usually) an easy Friday.
Believe it or not, more money coming in!
As I've got less time I got a bit more ruthless with customers I didn't like or messed me about.

5 Days a week Monday to Friday; four week month. odd days are off or booked with one off cleans.

Alternate months are 5 days a week Monday to Friday for 2 weeks, and then that's it nothing for a fortnight and back on again the next month.

Im terrible on holiday; cant switch off. I find 'relaxing' erm... well not relaxing at all.

I work Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday afternoons for catching up or fitting in ad-hoc jobs.

I am now fairly close to where I want to be work-wise.

I find it very difficult to switch off. I love the job, so working long hours/days doesn't worry me at all. Here in Ireland there are a few bank holidays coming up, which I'd rather work than have time off forced upon me! Also it rains a lot here, so I get a fair bit of time off for this reason also.

I've increased the hours i work on the 3 days which equates to another days takings
Filling the down time space with better paid work over the next few weeks will put me in a good financial position and more time off

Instead of putting another van on the road, i plan to have someone with me and work an easier life.

Plan is to cover their wages and make a bit extra each day BUT have an easier life.

I love window cleaning, but so much more to life than money. But then my attitude will change by the end of the week lol

I have a 5 or 6 day week (very rare I work saterdays) but I tend to start 9 to 14 or 15:00

saying that I had a month off in december\january.   1 week off in feb (weather) and another week off in march due to flu.

so this month is hopefully my first full one this year. ... oh I took last friday off and will take easter monday off.  Not sure if we count public holidays.
