Tds reading going up already?
« on: February 27, 2014, 04:09:35 pm »
After my first few days of going wfp and I'm only using tap water into my tank then through my 11 ltr di, I reckon I've only used about 5-600 litres of water and my tds has gone up to 004?
My tap reading is only 70ppm where I live and with that amount of water I thought it would still be 0
Is there a reason it's risen so quickly I was expecting a few thousand at least especially as my tap readings not sky high?

I would not worry about it at that level.

Yeah I've not noticed any spotting ect on windows but I'd like to keep it on 0, don't want to let standards slip before I've even done wfp a week!
I've heard some people can run up to 020 before they notice spotting etc?

I work up until 020, give your DI bottle a shake should bring Tds down.
Are you using a decent resin ? 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

The water flow going through your di vessel must be slow so the resin has time to work on the water. Water at a fast rate through the di vessel will make 'paths' in the resin and won't be purified properly. As has been said, give it a shake and slow the flow a bit.

Should take a few weeks or so before it starts rising to that level on the basis you are using about 300-400 ltrs a day over a 4 day week which is about what i do .

Although i purify at home into static tank with the right flow rate it takes about 8hrs to produce 300ltrs of pure .

Every few weeks i disconnect DI(s) give a good shake and roll back and forth a few times over table in garden . Mike

Could be tap water mixing with pure,

take riser tube out wash it then make sure o ring and filter are a good fit and stir resin while you got head off.

Think you can test the resin,

before stirring it take a spoonful out and put in glass, add a bit water then test it.

should still be at 0

As said, check your vessel, there is no way on earth your TDS should be rising at all by now. I work the same way & have same tap TDS & mine goes for weeks at 000 using more water than you.

Hi pal as above my tap gives 70-75 max ppm which I believe most people say 100 and you should be looking at ro so I reckon it shouldn't be eating resin this quick!

If it dosent go back to 0 after a shake the tap water will be mixing with pure I reckon.

Could it be done to not enough resin too?
When I filled the bottle up I just filled it up to the neck of the bottle then dumped the tube in!

Not too sure must be inside the head, risers got to be a tight fit and there will be a small o ring you can feel with your finger, needs to be tight.

You can half fill with resin and it will still read 0,just wont last as long.

How many readings did you take & are you sure that what you put the water in didn't have any contamination?

I usually test mine 2 to 3 times to make sure.

Had no complaints and it has been warm and sunny all week so some windows have dried while still at houses and windows have been spotless no signs of spotting at all . Mike

Cheshire, Have you connected the DI Vessel flow direction correct.....tap water to the 'INLET' and not the 'OUTLET'.

I painted a little direction arrow on the top of my DI Vessels to remind me.

Also, I don't DI on the van, but maybe your flow of 50-60 is a bit high through the resin.....

^^Just an idea......others guys here will know better than me.

Take your riser tube out and measure the tds of the water in the di tank.
If its at 000 then your flow could be to quick.
I think you might have got a bad batch of resin or resin that's been recharged.
Always buy resin from a reputable dealer.

I use a water butt and some  crap finds it way in including slugs due to top not been able to screw down as water coming out of DI was 34ppm .

Tank in back of truck was 69ppm  :o :o :o with floaters in so spent 2hrs draining and cleaning both tanks throughly all good now thankfully must set reminders to check TDS .

Had to call on customers house which i did yesterday and got look at another 2 neighbours i did as well and both spotless in bright sunshine .

Changing static set up and putting filters in place as well as securing a cover over top of tank with a couple of bungees . Mike

I live in Blackpool got the same reading out of tap 70 ppm started with Di only 6 years ago went through loads of resin after six months. installed R.O down to 2 ppm stays there for months and I use 2300 litres per day dont use resin at all to polish total waste of money

Wow you must do some!
2300 litres a day no wonder you went through resin, I'm using about 3-400 litres a day at the moment although I used more the first few days but now I'm working out best flow setting on controller and finding 50-55 works good

Good stuff, must have been that bucket.

So when the tds rises to 1 thats the time to put other vessel in.

So you have 2 vessels in line and get 000 but you can clean up to 10 or so,I prefer 6 or 7.

When your tds starts to rise again to 1 thats the time to change the first vessel,as it is probably at about your tap tds of 70,so is useless anyway.

Old resin goes in landfill.

So thats what I do but sometimes let tds rise till Ican be bothered to change it but ideally should be changed at about 001.

Out of a 25 kg bag would you say it fills two bottles with a little bit left over?

Aye,youll have 2 or 3 kilos left over,I squeeze air out and put a cable tie on then fold over and store.

I always use tulsion now from Dougie Daqua.
