Afternoon gents,
I'm after a bit and of advice
Specifically for my Ford Transit Connect L2
Official payload 976Kg
Currently using 500ltr tank
2 leisure battery's total 50kg
2 electric reels 70kg
pump controller, pair of step ladders
Would you say I could afford to put in a 650ltr or 700ltr tank
Or is that pushing it.
Yes I can do the maths but does my maxpayload mean that I can carry that much on a daily basis without putting too much stress on the van.
Has anybody had any experience of maxing out their vans without any problems.
I would like to get a bigger tank but I don't want to sell my van, as it's only done 15k on a 18 plate so basically brand new.
Any advice welcome
Cheers

ive got the same van L2 240 and the payload is 936kg.....i dont know where you ve got 976kg from(unless they ve changed it?(mines a 66 plate 2017)
theres no way your gonna be legal if you put a 650 in the back, also if you have 2 reels do you have a guy working with you too?if so then your van it just not suitable at all....its great for me as a sole trader with a 500L TANK but thats the limit.....

That's what I was thinking Dazmond.
My payload info is in on my paperwork.

I think your forgetting 2 people, fuel, extra water in the hose reels etc....
If I were you I’d go to a weigh bridge because the maths is nearly always out - it’s ALWAYS heavier than you think
You will by weighing it properly know for sure if you can carry the next size up, but from my experience it’s a no from me

Just a point; some stated payloads include fuel, plus driver. Some don’t.
It should be on your V5 document, or failing that there’s a payload checker thing in Grippa tanks website (you put your registration in, and it looks up the payload at the DVLA)

Dazmonds model is the executive with all the bells and whistles, it will be a little heavier hence the lower payload.

Yep even things like colour coded bumpers vs plastic bumpers it all makes a difference.

With tank weight, a 650L tank full is 650kg with the water alone. Then you have the tank weight about another 40kg, and a cage (if u have one) could take your water setup only, to nearly 750kg, plus 120kg for your reels & batts makes it 870kg bare bones, then all your other gear on top, plus one passenger would take you over.
