Title: What's your TDS after RO?
Post by: Tom White on October 14, 2013, 03:44:49 pm
I've just changed all my filters and I'm currently flushing the RO, but I'm interested to know what your TDS reading is after DI.

Mines 180 TDS from the tap, don't know what it is after the pre-filters, and it's (so far) a TDS of 10 after the RO.

Yours?

380 ish after RO around 5 then 000 after DI polishes. I also put another sediment filter just before going into pump, I know it won't bring the Tds down but it stops the crap going into the pump. I gotta say as I installed the pump before going into the ro I found the pump to be slightly noisy I had a spare 10" filter so added that before the pump and my pump seems much quieter and hasn't affected the pressure.

I so behind with water production; it's such a boring subject!  :'(

I just use a what I think is a standard RO.  It gives me about 500 litres a day; but this reduces in Winter a little, but it's not a problem as long as I start the week with a full IBC.

I think I'm changing my RO filters (150 gallon per day) about once-per-year; probably use about 15 litres of resin per year (maybe?) and I reckon my total running costs are under £200.

Does that sound about right for 500 litres per day?

My tap water TDS varies throughout the year but whatever it is I've found that  the TDS coming out from the filters is always 5% of the input.

Cheers Nick

Does it give 105 psi on the gauge when producing , or is is 105 the max it gives ?

How much did it cost ?

I have a 50 quid pump from lidl that gives me 80 psi on the gauge while producing.

Sorry for all the questions !

No problem Robert!

Yes, it does produce 105 psi to the RO and I think it was priced at about £200.

I'll see if I can locate the invoice.

I dont know much about those particular RO's Mick, only that the chaps here have mentioned that the high tds readings are a compromise for a greater volume of water production.

A merlin and have never had it below 37ppm running at 40 psi.

I have just moved and have nearly identical figures with a Merlin. A real downer after 240 tds and 70 psi. 200 litres in 90 minutes to 200 litres in 3 1/2 hours.  :'( i will investigate what difference a pump will make.

Why the hurry?  Are you on a meter?

Two reasons. Convenience and I understand that the tds will come down quite a bit with a pump.

My TDS is now 2 after RO.  That's better.  My last RO filters only lasted about 10 months.  I flush them fairly regularly but I sometimes get slack with changing the pre-filters (so I've bought them in bulk now).

How long does your RO filters last?

I use two 150 gallon per day ones.  I don't see the point in upgrading to a merlin (or something like that) because mine produces at least 500 litres a day (which is what I use); so come a Monday morning I've got a full IBC; and I never run out of water during the rest of the week.
