well as most of you may be aware,
euro 2004 football coming this weekend , great for some , not for others i guess :-/
Any way as an avid fan of football in general thought
i would buy a couple of those flags everybody seems to be displaying form their cars and vans ;D
got home flags flying from my van!!!!
straight away , mrs says "you can take those things off, your not turning up at customers houses looking like a football hooligan" apparently not very proffesional ,
so did as i was told ???
so my question is. How many of you think is unproffesional?, How many are displaying , or will be ?,
how many couldnt care less? no doubt, all the rest of our
uk freinds, scotland, wales and n, ireland, might respond to that part ;D
any way please tell me your thoughts either way
i was only been patriotic and now feel, well left out :-/

Geof,
Thanks, I wondered what the flags were about.
John.

Hi Geoff
I have one on my van and one on the car and, I am told, I look like a football hooligan ;D
No one has made any comment other than to talk about the up coming games.
Although I hear today that some police forces are asking some drivers to remove them as they might be upsetting to some of the community. :-/
The worlds gone PC, barking mad.
-
I have small neoprene flag that fits over aerial (Halfords), quite discreet.
Got two St. George headrests arriving any day now but wife says they cannot go in back off the car so they will go into van as well.
Customer could not see any of these unless i park on the driveway facing the house 8)
-
why the hell would be upseting to some
communities????
i cant quite work that one out, but i have a good idea why thats made my mind up .. .......
the flags are going on ;D
a yorkshire man, and an englishman through and through

I have absolutely no interest in football, but as Englishmen, gentlemen, you have a prefect right to fly your national flag - for whatever reason.
If sections of the community are offended by this, I would sugest that maybe they are living in the wrong country.
I am not a racist, but do believe that anyone who chooses to live in whatever country should conform to the customs and practices of that country. Enrichment of culture is one thing, subversion is something else again.
John.

I wouldnt fly them myself- however if the Police ask local people not to fly them -I will buy some and fly them out of principle.
How many goals do you think France will beat England by? Who will score first Henry, Zidane, Pires?
Ooooops did I realy say that out Loud :-[
-
Why is it that the English are the only nation that are 'not allowed' to have a pride in their flag...
..come to that it would seem that we can't even be proud of our own Country/Heritage/History any more for fear of offending 'others'
Well, I get totally offended by the politically correct brigade... can't we ban them! >:(

I'm also a football fanatic and patriotic but those flags on cars and vans are a joke. They look bloody ridiculous let alone unprofessional.I'll be shouting the boys on all the way but i'll draw the line at flags drapping all over my vehicles.

Joe
I do agree with you...If I want to fly the flag I would have a flag pole....!
Incidentally the Police are not too happy as it appears a great many of the vehicle flags are flying off whilst the vehicle is moving and it may present a hazard to others

I have to admit I may support Millwall in principle I’m not a fan of football boring.
Having a flag pole is one thing flying St Georges or the union flag is another, if you don’t conform, take it down look at local bylaws other wise you are nicked. Once again the police are on the roll to be PC, forget the pun what happened during the world cup same XXX our political system be it national but mainly local, always wants endogenous population to cattail to popular demand there’s! Try this in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, probably the most nationalistic within the UK.
Do we English celebrated St Georges day are we allowed too as such is it a bank holiday no!! Even Ken Livingston thinks it’s a waste of time! He would prefer to spend 3mil on a fire work display which no one saw, cant wait till I see him support a gay museum!
Some may think I’m a racist so be it but you don’t know me freedom of speech etc that includes the English.
Hope big brothers reading this and report me, I have full disclosure on this site, may have marked my cards stating Millwall haven’t been to any of there games since I was knee-high to a grasshopper.

The worst thing about euro 2004 or similar is that you get a very bad response if you are door canvassing.
it is not a good time for increasing business .
Cheers
George
-
George,
The best thing about Euro 2004 is that if someone tells me when it is on, I can go to Tescos and not have to queue !!
John.

FLY THEM FLAGS WITH PRIDE ;D
-
Steve
What flag under the pc we are discouraged to fly St Georges that associates you to the BNP PLONKER perhaps it should be white?
Len
-
Its nice to see that we have taken our national flag away from the NF/BNP. over the last few weeks, i have seen loads of flags flying from car and sides of houses. no longer is it totaly related to those rasist scum.I know some wont like this, but i wish we were more like the yanks and fly our flags more often. show some pride in our great nation. .The flag is for england, not some combat18 propoganda.
-
Im thinking of putting a massive German flag on my van :o
Well my mum is German the old bint ;)
Nick
-
Fly the England flag if you want to. There is nothing offensive about it, and life is too short to worry about other people's hang ups.
-
CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE NAME OF THE BRITISH FLAG .THATS ENGLAND SCOTLAND WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND AS I WAS WORKING AT THE HOME OF AN EX NAVY CHAP TODAY AND HE TOLD ME SOMETHING THAT I DID NOT NOW
-
SORRY KNOW ???
-
As far as I'm aware its called the Union flag, not the union Jack.
-
Dave,
Quite right - The term 'jack' is applied since it combines all the others (As in jack of all trades)
John.
-
Wales isnt included in the Union Flag
-
hmmm some very strong opinions, some bordering
on the line of a possible infringment of the so called
political correct brigades rules
however , not quite the debate i was seeking ,although
looking at it from some of your veiw points ,i can see
how feelings are easily stirred
my intention and main objective was to consider was it unproffessional.
perhaps a poll would have been of help!!
well not sure how to put up a poll on here , perhaps some can oblige, along the lines of my first questions
is it unproffesional?
whos displaying or will be ?
who doesnt care less ?
apprietiate if some one puts this format up
tks geoff

Hi
The combined flag of the 'home' nations is the Union flag but the term 'Jack' I believe originated from it's use in the Royal Navy i.e. the flag flown at the stern (that's the blunt end) of the ship
Derek
-
FOOTBALL??? and I thought they were supporting the BNP.
-
Got two flag in the van and 2 in the car - Can't wait for the comp to start - I told the wife I may not be as busy over the next few weeks ;D Pub time!!!

Just to say guys this is a thread about 1 or 2 St. Georges flags been put on vehicles to show support for our national team in a major football competition. Dont drag it into a slagging match about anything to do with any other countries flags, including the Union Jack as this is the British flag not the English flag . COME ON ENGLAND

I thought the nation had become full of Born Again Christians as St. Georges cross is the flag of The Church of England.
Back to the original post though, especially as I don't share a passion for football, I wouldn't display any of these pieces of chinese plastic on my van, car or bike. I do feel that it looks unprofessional. I wouldn't have a problem with carrying a small Cross of St. George sticker permanently on any of my vehicles. What I do object to though, is to dis-figure the flag with the word(s) ENGLAND written all over it (seems pointless doesn't it?) or even worse the 3 Lions motif (again seems pointless repeating the obvious)
There, I've had my whinge.
Safe and happy cleaning :)

Ken,
The church of England has sadly very little in common with born again christians!
Kind Regards

I have no intrest in football or flags whatsoever :'(
Did a job today for a lovely older couple couple.
Amtico floor stripped and redressed and cleaned dining room carpet.
Talked with the misses for ages over cups of tea while floor drying and trying to keep the cat out.
Both made up with floor looking like new again.
When the cheque was presented to me it read:
Sir Robert and Lady Charlton!
I then noticed who the old guy was! Well sometimes you dont look too close!
Just an ordinary down to earth couple, and a pleasure to work for. :)
