transits are good apart from rust. sprinters are fantastic apart from rust.
toyota hiace wont ever let you down EVER. not had any experience with french vans but from what i`ve heard they have more reliability issues than the above.
I personely dont need a big van right now so im using an escort van and again it rusts but its on 308,000 miles and i know i can take it around the world with confidence.

Havn't read all the posts so if i'm repeating myself i apologise. I wouldn't go near a vivaro pre 03 ... gear box probs. £2000 to replace! Trafic pre 04. After that your good to go. I've had both and would recommend them.  They're by far the best looking vans out there in my opinion and don't rust either! Great price compared to the vw transporters vito etc. Plus there's far more room in them. And the main reason we purchase them is they have cup holders!  ;) Hope this helps!

Thanks for all input.

The vivario/traffic look great thats why i would like one but i dont
think i can afford a 05 plate +

So far it seems i should get one of these vans
Ford Transit,Citren relay,Vito 2002, 2003,

unless anyone disagrees will put an add up on gumtree
and look around on ebay and basically buy one!

The Vivaros do look smart but I wouldn't get rid of my Y plate reliable Ford transit which I have had 4 years with very minor repairs and yes its a bit rusty but engines are reliable in them and that's what you want, I would recommend a transit or if I was to upgrade it would be another transit, merc, vw, or toyota I wouldn't bother with anything else.

I have a 55 plate transit, had it over a year now and love it, But knew i would. I used to travel the country to construction sites in my previous job in a few different vans. Transits were always my favourite and most of the other lads preferred them too, the company then moved over to vivaro's, and the only good thing i can say about them is the go like poop off a shovel, They are uncomfortable to drive, and have little space in the front IMO. They were forever having major trouble with them, with at least 2 needing new engines!! Bag of poope IMO. Movano's are even worse. We used 2 vw transporter 5 seaters for a couple of years and they were great, I think even better than transits, But i could not afford one when I was after a van and needed 3 seats in the front. Vito's I never really liked, very plasticy in the cab, went very fast though, But never really liked them. Sprinters were ok, Just not very comfy compared to tranny.
Lets be honest, Ford has lead the way in car and van making for years, They constantly win awards and get excellent reviews for comfort and ride etc, But they do need to address the rust issues as vivaro's never seem to rust.

As far as I know the gearbox problem was with the six speed ones upto about 2005 with the 1.9 engine if I was after one I would go for a facelifted 2.0 engine those are supposed to be ok but if money is tight then the early models with the 5 speed box are also supposed to be fine as it was the six speed boxes that caused all the problems

If you go for an older Vito/Sprinter (2000 - 2003), rust is a big issue. Secondly they are renowned in the motor industry for injector problems, Whilst the injectors aren't that expensive to replace, ie reconditioned, they can sometime snap off leaving the thread stuck in the head. (Steel injector and alloy head react and 'corrode' together). To remove that broken piece of injector is expensive. The head needs to be removed and sent to a specialist who will slowly heat the head up in a furnace to such a degree that the broken piece of injector drops out. It then has to be cooled just as slowly to prevent it warping.
Once apart there is always something else to be sorted, ie valves and guides, timing chain, idlers and water pump.

So please make sure that you are covered with some sort of warranty. If not, buy expecting an issue and offer accordingly. Costs of £1200 - £1500 for this type of repair are usual.

800litre system - forget the T260 and T280. The payload on the T260 will be used up with full tanks alone. With 800litres you will be better with a T330 or a T350

I got a T260 and like said above it will be over weight with 800 litres  plus rest of gear,Goes well though, saying its only got a 2.0 litre engine in.I have a 400 litre tank in, plus 200 more litres in barrels, twin bench seats  and all the rest of my stuff plus ladders on roof. Mine is swb low top. Before I put roof rack on it was ideal size as I could still get in car parks with height barriers.

Right hang on a sec;

948-1331kg (260 SWB, MWB)
957-1220kg (280 SWB, MWB. LWB)
1252-1420kg (300 SWB, MWB, LWB)

looking at those last figures with 2 men full tank ,poles etc u would think they can all take 800 liters?
the 300 could take 1000l? ,someone i was speaking to on the forum has a 300 forgot who with 1000l 2 men says its no problems?

I wouldnt wana go above the 300,they get too big after that,i heard even the large connect is good for 650 2 men

little Combo with 500 liters dont see why a 260 cant hold an extra 300kgs?
