With all this water there must be ICE
« on: November 14, 2005, 10:21:13 pm »
So if somebody slipps then will i be responceable,  you know if you put salt on water it causes the salt to freeze and in some cases it can make the griund worse
Also if you salt down you are saying that you fill the ground is unsafe to walk on, so making yourself  in line for the high jump and all the boys and girls will sue on a no win no fee job.

Take a 24" sponge floor squeegee with you and use that to clear the bulk of water on paths.

Are a lot of these posting going off topic very quickly?

Just a thought?

So much is said about sueing for compensation but very few understand what is involved. How do you prove negligence and what criteria are required to prove that?

No win no fee .... but you will still have to pay costs to the court .... don't forget that one that they say nothing about if you loose.

Cheers

Lots of people want a easy buck and sueing is the way believe me someone local  sued the council cos they
put ice down on a wet ramp leading in to a council building and the person sued cos' they said the council therefore must have knowen about the fact the ramp was unsafe and she WON the case.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Putting salt down prevents freezing, the salt lowers the frezzing point of the water, the salt itself doesnt freeze.
I dpon't think that putting road salt down infers that it is going to freeze or that the surface is in anyway dangerous, it is merely ensuring that you are taking all possible precautions.
What about water lying on a sheltered spot where the floor is green with growth?

You know that when it is wet it will be very slippery.

whose fault is that?

The council for not removing this verdigris/algae whatever?

Or yours for knowingly getting it wet and therefore making it dangerous to walk on?

An arguement can be made for both cases.

Road salt works, chuck it down prior to cleaning for best effect.

There is also someone either selling, or about to sell, a product for spraying onto paths similar to the defrost stuff that you spray on your car windscreen.

Still trying to find out about that though :P
