Title: Holiday cottage, linen washing
Post by: Anna Warren on May 31, 2014, 12:17:46 pm
I've secured a new contract to clean a holiday cottage. We agreed I'll wash and iron linen in my own house. How much should I charge? It's a three bedroom cottage , two double beds and one bunk bed.

Ring some local companies and find out how much they charge for ironing then go off that if it suits you.

If you are collecting items after a clean and returning them on the next clean then the washing of them shouldn't be as expensive as if you have to go out of your way to collect and drop off due to more expense in fuel.

I think it's 80p-£1.10 per bed sheet ironed near me, if I wash to take them to a laundrette to wash it would be £3.50. You'd also have to look at the volume that is being done in one go, the more there is the better.

Why not carry out the cleaning yourself and sub to a laundrette for the washing and ironing and just mark up. Less hassle if you ask me, unless you enjoy ironing.

Thank you for reply. There's not a laundrette in my town, only dry cleaners and they quoted me £21 per go. It sounds  expensive. I don't mind ironing, I know local girl does it for £10/h.

I've been washing and ironing linen for a month now, but most times it was bedding from one double bed, towels and tea towels. I thought about giving fixed price £50 per month, is it reasonable?

Our prices are slightly higher than the launderettes,
if you can get £50 go for it,
although you say for a month, is that 1 or 4 visits

we would charge about 13-15 + vat so you are about right,
although your costs would be slightly higher as more works out cheaper,
but your pricing about right there Anna

Here's our laundry pricing:

Double bedding set £6.00
Single bedding set £4.50
Bath towel £1.50
Hand towel/Tea towel/bath mat, oven gloves, etc £0.75 per item

That's for washing, drying and ironing.

We've got two 9kg washing machines in the workshop and two tumble dryers, an ironing board and steam generator iron, so they all get done there

All prices subject to VAT

If I could charge more I would, bloody hate them
