Title: Initial reactions/thoughts
Post by: nathankaye on May 21, 2020, 04:15:36 pm
As you know from my other posts, it didnt take me long to sort out another trolley and pole for the upstairs windows.
So i didnt want to spend too much money as it will only be used for one day out the month. Therefore I opted for
 CLX 22
14inch ultimate stiff brush
4 fan jets
Light green ultimate flex 15m hose
Back pack

So I opted for the  bright yellow back pack as it will be easier to fit into the boot and I can just carry it to the house as and when it is needed.

My initial thoughts as they have just been delivered and unpacked are this;

I am not liking the hose, its quite stiff and holds its shape ie wrapping up. Guess I need to run hot water through it to unravel and prevent it curling back up the same.   I  had no such issues with the rhino hose (wish i had spare of that but used it all in last couple of years).

The pole.
My last hybrid pole was the phoenix 25 and I hardly used it as I had the carbon slx pole.  Another reason was because the pole had quite a bit of flex in it.    However the clx range gets high praise and a mate (who im taking water from) really likes his clx pole as well.  I can understand why, as it seems a great pole, especially for the price of it.  Fully extended and it seems to hold its length nicely. Sure there is a little flex in it but absolutely no where near the flexibility of my phoenix pole I had.
I also like the shortened collapsed length of the pole.  I also expected it to be heavy in comparison to the carbon pole I used everyday (slx 25 with 2 extensions on).  Yet and this is just the pole, no brush. It feels quite heavy compared to the phoenix 25 and probably same weight as my carbon that I used.  All said though, it looks and feels a great pole for what I need it for.

The brush, yep its lighter than my brick I used before and the bristles do feel quite stiff as well. A feature that I like.  I could be wrong about my other brush then!
The four fan jets will have to wait until im using the brush for the day to get a true feeling for.

I know your circumstances are difficult but you're just pi**balling about Nathan. You need a van mount & do what you can part time.

And drop any texters, then they won't now if you're coming or not so if you get called home it's no great shakes.

Ive one day of work Daz and ive saved nice easy work for myself, so no awkward windows.  Its just a couple over a the odd conservatories, and one house whose garden slopes at an angle which isnt suitable for ladders.

In addition, i am used to heavier brushes n pole which I used everyday, all day.

This is extremely hard to fight the temptation to do so.  However, im not getting many days to have the spare time to think about it, so thats a plus.

On the other hand, my mrs has been stuck in for about 4 months or so and yesterday was a good day for her so we spent a day up at the lakes (Brown Howe in coniston for ones who know it).  Took the camping loo and stove and had a great safe day out. Everyone abiding by social distancing and kept about 5m away from others.

I bought the same ultimate 14" brush with 4 jets not long ago just to try. Quickly went back to my usual brush, it's just too big and awkward for everyday use.

Looks a good setup for a noob btw  ;D

I guess you didn’t get the memo to stay away from the national parks for the time being, especially the Lake District due to the extremely high rate of infection still.

In addituin the websites git updated on 21st this month.  When i checked about where to go for a day out, the national parks were open provided that social distancing was adhered to and that public toilets were closed.  Hence with having a 3yr old I took the camper loo!   Haha its not like I take my camping gear every time we go out for a day out  ;D ;D

You’re out of date. We’re allowed to drive anywhere for exercise if we choose. It’s a right. Whatever we may think about the wisdom.

Yes we’re allowed to, but it’s not the right thing to do, unless you have half a brain anyway. The Lake District official tourist channels have issued many pleas since the restrictions were lifted, all over social media and the press for people to stay away for the time being, not really difficult is it.

I’m itching to get up into the lakes again but right now it’s not really the right thing to do especially considering the high rate of infection currently in Cumbria.

The Peak District seems like they are welcoming visitors so I’ll head there for my outdoors fix for the time being.

And I read earlier that Kinder Scout is the best mountain in Britain. I’d argue though that it’s unwise to go there at the moment though as I assume it will be busy.

Supposed to be doing Kinder Scout next Friday, but that’s subject to change. Looking at Luds Church walk tomorrow, will be there and walking by 7:30am so will be out and back before anywhere gets busy.

I know loads of areas in the lakes where i could park, walk and be back in the car without seeing a single person all day, it just doesn’t feel right whilst it has the highest infection rates in the country.

Then you have Nathan driving his family 6 hours round trip, straight past two other national parks on the way, to have a picnic at Coniston. Strange world we live in. 😂

Is that a fact about the highest infection rate? Sounds unlikely but I wouldn’t know. You know the area better than I do, but I know when we’ve walked in the Hard Knot (Eskdale?) area it was quiet.

The weekend before the lockdown in my area we met my daughter for a socially distanced walk along the Ridgeway and the car park was rammed. Never seen more that 10 or so cars there before so what the Lakes must have been like that weekend I dread to think.

I was in the lakes myself the weekend before the lockdown 13-15 March. Wasn’t feeling great and the fells were covered in clag so we just did circular walk of Crummock water and Derwentwater on the Saturday and Sunday. Derwentwater was predictably busy but we didn’t pass a single person around Crummock water. We stayed in Keswick and although it was reasonable quiet, probably due to the weather.

Clean clear put a pic above showing the infection rates in the Lake District above. It’s one of, if not the most affected areas at the moment, which isn’t helped by the fact they have very few hospital beds per capita.

Mate,  does it matter how many national parks I drive to.  Ideally i would have drove over 8 hrs round trip to go where I would truly liked to have, but sadly scotland is still on lock down, along with wales.
So it was this beauty spot I picked so we could enjoy a day out, paddling or getting the inflatable boat out on the lake.  Either way, guess what, my family really enjoyed it and we broke no laws, no social protocols in doing so.  Unlike when i do my weekly shop at asda where I do come into wayyyyyy more contact with people who dont seem to mind standing right next to you to grab something of the shelve 😡😏

It isn’t your fault. You applied your common sense and so did tens of thousands of others. The main thing is you stayed alert I hope.

Slightly doesnt it.

Initially when i planned this, rather than sell the final small section off. I thought it was just the odd window above the conservatory which I would be missing out. No big deal really.
Then I came to clean the houses and forgot about a couple more awkward ones and a particularly challenging garden of slopes which isnt ideal for ladder work.  So a back pack n pole for those would suit me fine.
Its a good job that i sold everything else for the price I did then isnt it.

Nathan, you still haven’t told us how much you sold your round and van for?

£50? Or what?

 ???
He swapped the lot for this hog, it does 70miles to the gallon.

If you look at his facebook page which he has linked, it has a pinned video that seems to suggest this is a temporary measure and he'll be back soon , maybe........... Infact it suggests his "round" is being looked after by some other people rather than being outright "sold". Here's the video..........https://www.facebook.com/1NKServices/videos/1597998030377108

I think it’s fairly obvious that he’s sold his round as an asset because he’s skint. I called it as soon as it went up for sale.

Imagine being a customer of Nathan’s and watching that video, being drawn into the discussion of passing work on and someone else taking over etc etc.  Some things need to be kept private and simple mate I’m afraid, I cringed all the way through that video.
