Starting out advice needed
« on: December 06, 2009, 01:00:11 pm »
Hello everyone!
I am seriously looking at starting a carpet cleaning venture, domestic initially to start out with.
I would really appreciate professional advice regarding the best approach to take and what equipement(new or second hand) would you recommend? and what are the pitfalls, obvious or not, should i look out for or expect???
Also is there a typical price structure for charging customers?
I know you all probablly get asked these questions all the time but i would really appreciate your much valued help.
Thanks
Robert

go for it!

our market is vast - and capable of taking a lot more expansion.

It would help if u were in an affluent area with good disposable income.

Focus on yr marketing - get yr message out there - go on all the training courses.

Have a look at my ad for my Blazer Plus - it would be a good start point.

I started from scratch 7 years ago - and have not looked back...happy to give u help!

Every carpet needs cleaning - fact.

Not every householder wants their carpets cleaned - fact.

Know the market.
What catchement area will you cover?
Hows the recession affecting that area?
How many carpet cleaners already in the area?
What will make YOU different to the others - your unique selling point?

Its not easy to get to the point where you can earn a living.
So what money have you got behind you so you can keep going when times are tough.
Whats your budget, not just for the machine, but other equipment, vehicle, advertising, insurance, training - and these things are ongoing.

Dont just think you can buy a machine and off and away you go - not that easy.

What do you do now for a living?
Will that blend in with the carpet cleaning till you get established?

So many questions for YOU to answer, only YOU can decide.

Hi Esky

I'm going to be a bit cheeky here.

In the Spring I am planning to change my van. What I have considered is selling the van to a start-up carpet cleaner along with an Alltec twin vac 135psi machine, a choice of wand, upholstery tool, hoses, sprayer, Envirodri E40, rotary machine, start-up chemicals, training and on going technical support and mentoring. The van is a Citroen Dispatch 03/03 owned from new and dealer serviced on the button covering about 9k miles per annum.

This package will allow any start-up the opportunity to start at the beginning and gain the necessary knowledge and experience, before hand if required, so that they can hit the ground running come the day they step into the wonderful world of carpet cleaning.

If you are interested and want to know more details then contact me on 07968 175166

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I can recommend Ken as an honest and trustworthy seller, having bought an Alltec machine off him many years ago.

The machine is still working fine and was the basis for me starting my own business.
