You will go far , because you are prepared to pay for your curiosity.

I think the videos gave at least 2 invaluable tips to a beginner.

So are they worth the money ?

If they save you 1 hour in a week, then they are worth it, nobody told me not to wet the top of the window too much when i started, it took me a year to figure that one out, doh

Dave68 Take a tip from Dave @st-ives he is spot on with his comments. I was taught by two old guy's who were Retiring,

one thing they never spent much time on with me, was pole work (Traditional pole work) I had to learn that myself by trial and error. more errors than trials back then.
you have the benefit of a forum full of professionals keep asking the questions and you'll keep getting the answers.

Hi all

Sorry to drag this topic back up , but rather than start a new thread etc.....

Im getting faster now with the squeegee but only down and across  ::)..  i am practising hard on the other ways of doing it, but its different everytime i try..

my question here is,

do you all squeegie the same way, ie cut in at the same point everytime?

its hard to explain, for example,... plasterers are trained to plaster in a certain way,

does that apply to window cleaners with a squeegie?..

with wrist action and swirls of the squeegie,,

i know its a daft Q But..... i want to know so i can get it right... or is everyone differently trained?   using their own methods..

do i make sense? :D

gary.

I use about 5 different techniques when squeegieng.

I use the top to bottom , the "s",
 "the cutting down the mountain",
on patio doors i usually use the "m ", and if the window allows i use "n" or "o"

I didnt know they had names also, i have just put my own words for most of them .

The "s" i think describes itself, the "n" is start flat from the bottom , straight up , across , then straight back down, i find this a good technique where speed and not quality is important.

If more quality is required for the same technique i do exactly the same as above but close by going across  when i get to the bottom, which gives me the "o"

Both are done without lifting of the pane , you just have to be carefull as you turn at the top as this is where you will most likely mess up.

The letter "m" is similar to the above and works great on patio doors
Start at the bottom .up across, back down, across the bottom then repeat to cover the entire door.

The more control you have of your squeegie , the less detailing you have to do.

The cutting the mountain is start bottom left , go up , across and down the right , which leaves you with what looks like a mountain ,then you simply return from the right back over to the left taking another chunk of the mountain with you , and so on and so on untill the mountain as gone.

Some windows suit the straight down technique which can be the fastest metod in a lot of circumstances.

Wet window , then wipe a fingers width across the top of the frame with your scrim. then place your squeegie in the dry bit you have just wiped then keeping your hand at a consistant angle for the entire stroke take the squeegie firmly straight to the bottom of the glass,

Dave

Dave has given you some very good tips there,

like i have said in the past practice all  Techniques, but only when the customers are not at home, at least when you B***s up (and you will) you can rectify the problem with out looking a n*b head.

it will take time to master the Techniques dave has told you about, and there good ones, but they won't come over night,  practice, and  practice some more, and you will get better and you will get faster.
Good Luck
