Funny old world.................when I write about how quickly I clean suites, I get nothing but criticism, but then, I'm just a novice, compared to some of the vastly experienced and talented individuals on here.

I have deliberately avoided commenting on, how quickly leather suites can be cleaned and I mean cleaned, as such a comment, will guarantee a " You can't possibly get it clean in that time "

Having only been cleaning leather for around 20 years and having originally visited our local producer of high quality leathers, for advice, before starting, I suppose I still have a bit to learn.

i wish you show us how to do sutie quicker ive been doing them for many years like yourself and it still takes me 2 hours and more and thats t.m.ing them ! i must be messing about or talking to much to the custy would love to cut that time down

Is this quick leather cleaning using a certain pre spray and a brush?

No Bennie I would never advise using a brush to clean pigmented leather .

Had a call of Dave L  yesterday and if he is not over in the States working when our leather day is on then he is going to come. He has kindly offered us a demo on how to tuft and weave, so any guys that have been invited have the option to learn how to retuft.( Halliday has already got his knitting needle out in readiness ;D)

Furniture clinic sell a Tampico brush for getting in the grain of dirty suites, do you think that's too harsh if you use it gently?

After cleaning a few suites in my earlier cleaning days with a soft brush and seeing what I thought was the leather coming off I was relieved when I started to clean with sponges and cloths as it doesn't my you poo yourself.

Can't wait for my pilgimage next week, after going last year I learned so much providing you take your common sense with you!

Shaun

PS Don't forget it is real world stuff, I'll have to be retaught because I'm not common!!

As I have no knowledge of Paul's methods, I don't intend posting conflicting views, or opinions, other than to comment that I have NEVER   " followed the book " in anything I've done in life, always feeling there might be better, methods, tools, products, etc, but with leather, caution is paramount.

I've been fortunate, or maybe just lucky, in never ruining a client's furniture, but I have come across many leather suites, which had been treated incorrectly and had the potential, to cause me a serious problem.

The most important thing about cleaning leather, is to be as certain as you can be, that you can clean it safely and without compromising your good name.

As there are only so many ways of " cracking an egg " I suspect we have come to much the same conclusions, but using different products.

Not surprisingly, the training providers are avoiding involvement in this thread, but they must be staining at the leash, desperate to post warnings of potential disaster.

I rarely use brushes myself, but use them occasionally.

Hope the day goes well and leads to greater cooperation in the future. It's good to talk !

Like all training it's only good if you take it on board, I know of a cc that has a NCCA qualifacation/membership and does practically nothing that he was taught by them. As an individual it is up to you BUT I bet the trainers/suppliers won't lke it because Paul is doing it for free and also the suppliers are not being looked upon as specialists at this moment in time, Paul is!

Knowing Paul and his fastidious ways I feel the information and techniques will be safe, why would I want to go and waste a day of my precious time if I knew Paul wasn't good at what he does?

Perhaps you have forgot Shaun, but Leather Technical and Training are currently doing free full day courses.
and a few months ago I attended a free evening seminar they did, so lets give credit where credit is due.
Not sure what Furniture Clinic have programmed for 2008.

I appreciate what LTT are doing but you'll find Paul's 'workshop' different as he gets straight into it and there's only 4 at a time so you get a go at ask and answer as you go along and in all honesty LTT are wanting you to buy their products so they are wining and dining you (which is good business) but Paul is selling nothing, I think you'll find the 'experience' is a different one.

Don't know what Ben at Furniture Clinic is doing he seems to have more customers than you can shake a stick at, but I do know that when he is teaching that he won't have more than 4 at a time.

This tread has grown quite interesting.
Still getting lots of emails for requests for places, but as I posted a few days ago all places are takn and there is even a waiting list  :o.

Just to clarify things, I am not and dont profess to be a leather specialist. If you want this type of knowledge go and do a course with Ben at Furniture clinic or Andy at LTT, they are the specialists in this game.
I am a carpet and upholstery cleaner only.I have a knack to pickup things quickly and able to self learn and change/develope things to suit my end result.

What I will show the guys is a way to clean pigmented leather very quickly in a way they have not seen before, this works well on light coloured suites that are heavily soiled and are hard to clean and very time consuming, and when you cant get all that muck out of the grain even after scrubbing, this way will do it fast and also removing dye transfer quickly.

Also showing repairs and recolouring the fast way.

Also Dave Leahona will be coming on the 7th do demonstrate retufting and samples for us to work on.
