Travertine cleaning and repairs
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:10:06 pm »
If you are going to repair the holes that form in travertine would you do an initial clean then put repairs in when the floor is dry and then finish after the resins gone off. What procedure would you follow?. I have got a house with 3 rooms all with holes that the customer wants cleaning and repairing. Is there an amount of time you need wait after putting in repairs to seal floor etc.

I always wait until dry before using filler.

It goes off pretty quick if you add extra hardener.

I usually wait until the hardener has cooled down and finished reacting before sealing the floor.

The best way is to do the repairs first.  Dry vacuum all the holes all the holes out then clean them with a white spirit.  If I have a lot to do I mark each hole as I am going round with coloured tape next to the hole then they are easy to spot when you have mixed the stukko resin.  Then deep clean as normal and then seal.  No sealer will be able to penetrate the repairs but neither will the repairs be able to hold dirt if you finish them as we showed you on the course.

Good Luck and call me if you run into problems!
