what you can carry will depend on the load carrying capacity of your vehicle, you will find it in your documentation...

I run a Suzuki supercarry which has a measly 1 litre engine. It has a payload of  500 kgs so I have a 400 litre tank installed. It does struggle a little first thing in the morning when the tank is full. Have to say I probably wouldn't have gone out & bought such a small van but as I already had it when I started WFPing it made sense to use it. It has 105,000 miles on the clock so I will probably run it into the ground & then go & buy a bigger van.

So what do you do with your poles ,do they fit in the van or do you have to put them on a roof rack.

Paul,

If your payload is 500kg and you fill your tank up to the top you are overweight.

If the police stop you and take you to a weigh bridge you will face a big fine, £2k.

Its not worth it.

The weight includes the driver and the dieseal, You then have your Di tank, pump, hose and reel, plus poles plus a battery and any trad gear you carry.

You've got me wondering now, checked my owners manual, the only relevant spec is a Curb Weight of 695kgs, is that the same as the payload?

paul the only suzuki van I could find is the suzuki carry 1.3i.  It has a payload of 577Kg, assuming you have a 400ltr wydale tank (which holds 350ltrs not 400 as 400 includes volume occupied by the baffles), plus tank weight (27kg I think but someone else may know for sure) equates to 377kg plus driver etc.

I think I've worked it out. The kerb weight is how much the thing weighs empty & the gross vehicle weight is the maximum including the weight of the vehicle. So if you subtract the kerb weight from the gross vehicle weight you get the payload, I think

Gross vehicle weight          1410 kg
Kerb weight                        695 kg

Payload                                715 kg

Am I right?

Thanks Neil, my van is the older model with only a 1 litre engine, not 1.3.

It seems to make quite a difference to the kerb weight.
Mine is 695kg where as the 1.3 is 873kg. So with both vans gross vehicle weight being more or less the same, mine seems to be able to take a slightly bigger payload, as it starts off lighter when empty.

I'm having to work it out  this way(gross vehicle weight, - kerb weight = payload) as no where in my documentation does it specifically mention payload.

Paul,

Thats the correct formula for working the gross weight out.

Is it raining in Warrington? Its piddling down here in Lancaster.

Did you buy the battery charger I told you about?

Regards Nel.

Yes it is hoofing it down here, went & did one house this morning in between the heavy downpours.

I've not bought the charger yet, but I do intend to do so. Had a heavy week & done lots of commercial work that I am still waiting to be paid on, when the cheques come in I will be on the phone to them.
