DI Vessel question

  Did a small experiment yesterday but turned out a damp squid. I used a 250 ml
  DI vessel connected to the mains but the TDS out the end did not come out
  000 as I presume the water flow was too high. It only came down to 000
  when I turned the tap to a trickle.

  Any resin guru's out there, what is the smallest size di vessel can I use
  attached to the mains that will give me 000 tds. Do not want to waste any
  more resin.

we have a customer that puts two 10 inch housings in line with a refilable cartridge inside each one  taking 1 liter resin each its lasts him 3 hours at a tds of 280

DA,

The size of the vessel (resin) container can be as small as you like, but as you have found out the smaller it gets the lower the flow needed to achieve good results. The water must have enough contact time with the resin in order to swap ions so that means slow flow or big vessel. Even with a 10 x 18" vessel if you are trying to run the water through too fast you will waste the capacity of the resin, as the TDS will rise long before the resin used up.

Question: Why do you want it as small as poss?

  Hi Steve,

  I managed to blag some free resin from some manufacturer's but in small
  quantity hence reason for looking a small DI vessel.

  This is for my own interest to see which resin lasts the longest plus want
  to try a couple of things to see if it will prolong the life of resin.

  Understand the flow rate effects the resin but just wanted to know what is
  the min size di vessel I can have with normal flow rate.

You could try linking up a couple of DI tanks together, which will increase the life of the resin, but you will need to control the water flow rate.

Thats trial and error, just take the tds readings and stop when the flow rate starts to rise the tds'.
