I have the female fitting on the pole hose and the male fitting on the tap.
Having the male fitting on the pole hose is great if you want water to run everywhere when you unplug it.

cheers guys, thats a good point there pal but arent you faced with same issue of water everywhere from the other side of the hose?
also anyone got any good links to cheap rectus 21 connectors, seen some on ebay but certain theyre not rectus as they say fitting type 21?

No, because once its disconnected then no air can get in and you can tip the pole upside down and water won't run out.

And because its off at the tap it doesn;t come out there either.

are these balls worth fitting to the pipes too to save the connector?
