days lost, and popcorn
« on: November 30, 2021, 05:03:53 pm »
;D   so shortly im off to my local garage for some craft cider and popcorn ...
but before I go , I would like some input off all cold water users .

1.....how many days are lost each year to frosty cold weather?
2......was the amount of money lost, (if any ) prompting you to justify  spending 5 k on a hot water system?
3...... how many of you enjoy the benefits of warm water via  an emersion or hot water through a DI?

NB IF YOU HAVE A HOT WATER SYSTEM , PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POSTING !
I want to hear the stastistics from cold or warm water users

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Since the cold winter of 2010, when I took 2 weeks off in January due to the extreme cold weather, I’ve lost less than 10 days work due to freezing conditions.

(Temps in 2010 were -12° and lower so nobody was working, hot or cold)

North West based so it’ll be even less for you southern lot.

1. Not many. But I work in and near Bristol in the south-west.
2. No. The only thing that would prompt me for an on demand heat system would be if I did a lot of first cleans or say dirty annual or six monthly stuff like schools.
3. I have an immersion on board (since the very cold 2010 winter) and I use this in the colder days of winter  -  for supple easier to manage hoses and when the temperature is hovering around freezing. I reckon I go out earlier in the day on some frosty days.

It's a game of three halves!

You should have a lot of replies then, trust me just buy one and don’t take any advice from anyone who’s not used hot water for any length of time it’s an asset to you and you’re business it makes working easier all year round.
Forget the first clean rubbish that’s not only what it’s good for its better faster and easier on regular cleans too, when you come back and thank me they’ll be no hard feelings ok 👌.

I'm not after advice.  I am just looking at statistics .
I use hot on cold days anyway, but mainly for nice warm hoses .

I’ve worked with a gas heater and these days an immersion tank.
To be honest the window of freezing temperatures a hot system will allow you to work is probably pretty narrow possibly from minus four to minus five. Once it gets colder than that brushes freeze, jets freeze, windowsills freeze solid and any spilled water will instantly turn solid on pathways.
On top of all that my b******s freeze anyway.

I'm in the south east, been using cold water for thirteen years,I've only lost one day in that time, that was doe to tempature stayed at minus three all day which caused water to freeze in the pole hose and brush jets.
I've always been able to work in minus two without problems

Hard to remember. the only time i can recall having more than the odd day off is when we had the beast from the east a few years back.

But the days i have had off wouldnt have been helped with hot water as when its cold enough for cold water to freeze on the glass its  also cold enough to freeze hot water.

I think you are missing the whole point of using hot water it’s not to be able to work in minus whatever the reason to use it is to speed up the job , remove stubborn dirt etc especially on less frequent jobs and remove salt if costal , and less or no need for chemicals on building cleans and UPVC .

If you keep everything wrapped up you will get away with it yes once the water starts to flow through the pump it’ll defrost and you’ll have flow that’s fine, the thing is who needs all that hassle first thing in the morning.
You can have days that are beautiful to work in but it’s been so cold overnight or is cold during the day you’re either frozen up in the van or the jets freeze in the brush,it’s not about how many days you’ve had off it’s about how easier it makes the working day the same goes for electric reels and poles that are as light as possible,if it makes my day easier I’m first in the queue.

i can see your point on this . especially as you live near the coastline .
I use hot , but I am very lucky to live in a soft water area so I fill up with hot in the morning whilst im having a coffee .
it stays very warm well into the day .

I live where that storm arwen hit over the weekend, and the windows have been caked with filth this week .

I just prefer working with hot water all year round....

As for working on freezing cold days with ice, snow on the ground I usually have the day off... :)
price higher/work harder!
