Seriously, how hard is it to sit down for an hour with a pad and pen and think up some text for your website??
You do the job, you own the business, so you should be able to describe your works easy enough in a couple of paragraphs, but no, you just search the net, find a website and copy the page..  >:(

Really p15ses me off.. had to have a rant..

I shouldn't worry too much, Google will see it as duplicate text and penaliuse their site and won't send them any traffic.

Roland,

I know what you mean mate, but Google is a strange beast, you never know what they are going to do. Plus, its just the fact that some people are so lazy. I mean, I could have just copied someones text, but i spent days sitting and thinking and changing things to come up with my text.

Yeah I know what you mean. You can use copyscape to check if anyone has copied you and when you find it send them a cease and desist and also one to their web hosting providers and then their site will be shut down if they don't remove the page in question.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean.

Or when they steal your photos.. I mean everyone's got a camera phone so just take a few snaps yourself. I remember when I first started. I did a friends drive for free just to get a few snaps to use for advertising.. Now people just Google and pinch them

Yeah, i use copyscape once a month, and this guys site didnt show up last month, so he's obviously a new start.
Not sure who i would get in touch with if i wanted to take it further though.

I have "no right click" software on my site, but people with a bit of know how or web designers can get past that pretty easy.

I try and waterwark my pics now, if i can remember before i upload them.

After checking copyscape once every month or so, there's always one or two new ones appear, pes me off no end, usually an email sorts things out. Even members on here have copied text from mine in the past.

If he uses the steps side on he'll end up in a wheelchair, it also states he can "stretch the hose 100m from the van"  ::)roll It's amazing how, if you know what your doing you can tell the blokes an idiot just by looking at the images. It could be worse - could be one of those boring, generic smartfart websites.

Lee, you weren't the only one mate.
It's the ones that just cut & paste text that really get me, usually from another section on here.

Matt,
Your site states it has copyright so just go for him.
Email first stating that it might be an over sight on his or his web designers part and you would like the text removed in X amount of time. Monitor his site. I did have Google remove one companions page that ignored the friendly approach, I'll try to find the page/link for you I used.
You can go the legal route costs can be high and so can the fines, if you ever get paid, I think breach of copyright can be as high as £200K.

Just pure laziness on some peoples part, but it goes on I'm afraid

https://support.google.com/legal/troubleshooter/1114905?rd=2 looks pretty straight forward. Not sure they will actually do it though. I wonder what they look at when deciding, and i wonder how many of these they get a wekk.  :o

Another thing you can do to back-up your case is check here http://archive.org/web
You can check when you had the text on your site and when he started using it, with-in a certain time though. But what it will prove is you had the text first and is yours (copyright) so proof that it has been copied.

that's the company that hosts his website, they have an obligation to remove copyright infringing content.

A word of warning...

Happened to us recently, images and text nicked from our various sites. We sent a strong email advising them to remove within 24 hours, and have since been receiving lots of malicious reviews and problems since.

The 'company' in question is called Jet Busters and they are based in Rainham. - Been going for around 5 weeks now (according to ltd company setup).  Person in charge is called Jeff Powelll but hides behind his girlfriend who always answers his calls.

We have since received false google reviews from someone called 'Reg Herte' who funnily shares the same postcode as the company (google the name and postcode) as well as other public website forums I use being bombarded with false accusations of us doing bad jobs, being a cowboy and basically being a company to avoid.

I've since managed to get 99% of the rubbish removed from these sites, as it was pretty obvious to see what was happening, but has still caused me a lot of aggro none-the-less. I've also been in contact with his local Trading Standards and passed on all the evidence I have, so hopefully will hear something from that.

Personally, I don't think this guy and his 'company' will last 5 minutes in the job, as firstly nicking people's images really isn't the way forward, secondly, his website is laughably poor, and thirdly, he really doesn't seem to have the first clue about pressure washing (in one post he claims 12l/m is ample for commercial pressure washing!  ::)roll but claims to be an 'expert'.

Anyway, just wanted to give you all a 'heads up' on here, there seems to be a lot of low life gypos out there happy to use other people's hard workas their own, and worse still, leave false and libellous reviews when caught out to try and look innocent.....

It's a scary world out there!
