In my experience if you use microsplitters for cleaning upholstery, you get much better results taking more time to agitate making the extraction stage quicker.
The other day i cleaned the seats on Vauxhall Corsa, the seats were really minging!
I wanted to keep the moisture down to a minimum as the custy needed the car in the after noon so i lightly sprayed hot SPM and gently massage the seat with the kestrel, after a short time the cleaning agent plus mechanical agitation had improved the appearance and a low pressure extraction using my CFR tool was all that was required.
Once i had finished the last seat in the car, the first one was almost nearly dry...

Tony - I simply dont have set prices for auto interiors, every car is different so i kind of base my price around my hourly rate... you could probably charge around £30 per seat

I do car valeting as well as carpet and suite cleaning, and charge £45 to £50 for a car interior which seems to be the acceptable rate around here. I use a Numatic CTD 570 for the cars but Cristal Fusion for suites. I find the Cristal Fusion an excellent machine although wouldn't have paid full price for it. I was lucky enough to get it s/h.

Happy new year Rich and everyone!

Unfortunately due to the car cleaning "invasion" which has swept Britain over the last 10 years, any fool with a bucket of dirty soapy water and a pressure washer can be self named as a valeter.
I got out of the trade simply because i could not compete with the low prices offered by the hand car washers. All i do now is offer specialist automotive interior cleaning which involves deep cleaning, vomit, urine removal, odour control and dry steam sanitising.

I still see Car Valeting Vans more than Carpet Cleaning. The Vans are usually driven by  long established Uk residents, and many have been around for years . They are always clean and shiny.

I occasionaly do car upholstery for a pvt car seller the seats, head rests, carpets and boot carpet I use upholstery foam with sponge lightly brushed where needed then extract with hot water and inline hand tool. on average 2 and a bit hours and charge £140.00 it's a bit fiddly and a bit of a back breaker so don't actively go for car upholstery.

The Storm is going good thanks. It still suprises me how much "suck" it has lol literally lifes the carpet off the floor!

I am finding alot more grit in the waste bucket now, i put this down too the added sucked but also the new Westpack wand that I got with the machine. The four jets are closer to the ground and are angled to dig into the dirt.

Sold my Transit Connect just b4 Christmas and got a Peugeot Bipper.

yeah i used to have a connect two years ago before getting a swb transit. Not sure what i'll get in two years time, maybe a transporter or another tranny.

Transit has a little rust on it but its not gotten any worse in the last two years of owning it, and i've not done anything to stop it.

Yes there is money in detailing however, to do it properly you cant really be a mobile service... you need premises with all the toys to be able to carry out the work all year round.
I looked into this and unless you have a steady stream of "class" customers willing to pay a premium for your service, you will be struggling to pay the bills.
I enjoy just cleaning seats... easy money and its healthier being outside for a change!

I would of gone with a Transporter but i only need a small van, i just load up the van what i need for the day.

I have a large workshop at the end of my garden.

When i was valeting i had Transit swb / Ducato / Dispatch...

Same as Shaun, decent cordless drill with a drill pad attachment (Ebay few pounds) and some mini bonnets or I have used a cheap plastic cut off toilet brush as well with the drill, new of course .
Good for agitation on stairs, again a pound or two depending on where you shop.

They are usless for car polishing and even worse for aggitation. If you want electric for aggitation you want an oscilator then you dont damage the fabric. One of these

I've another one which is a rare colour (only made for a year) which is in far better condition, just undergoing a full engine rebuild to keep it sweet.
