Hard Water?

OK How do we find out how hard are water is and what is all the resin lark?

WFP I am well 8uggered as I am not the brightest Spark

trying to take it all in Head hurts

has anyone advice on what the first steps are to getting into WFP please

I have an Astra Van and I will need this only for awkward Roof windows and town houses

Say 20-25 top windows a day What size would I need also what size pole?

a tds meter will tell you how hard your water is and for sterting out i would use a 250L tank 18f pole and pureify your water at home using an ro system into a holding tank ie waterbutt i suggest to you you try and build your system yourself this way you will save yourself a packet

thanks guys,
but on the site it says "Connect the RO unit upto the mains water Supply Run the RO waste pipe to the Drain or container"

Is there any way of doing this without connecting to the mains water as I have no outside taps I can run a hose but how long will it have to be on? topsy turvey house me got.

Hi Jago

Its by far best to connect to mains. The RO works by water going through the membrane/membranes nder pressure. Normal tap water pressure is usually enough.

It isnt essential to have an outside tap. You can feed from your cold water supply, usually under the sink and drill a small hole in the wall and feed the pipe through. The pipe is only around 6mm wide so it only has to be a very small hole.

It is possible to use another supply but you would need to boost the pressure using a pump.

It is all really quite simple but I remember when it was doing my head in

if you buy a self-cutting garden tap kit, you can use the kit under a kitchen sink, they are about 10 quid in B&Q etc

then just run the 6mm pipe to that, ive just moved my water rain butts this week, i have left my RO in the garage and run a 6mm pipe around the house, its about 30 M's away

you can either have the RO in a kitchen cupboard and run the 6mm pipe from that (great for the winter)

OR

run some 6mm pipe to a RO next to / under your water tank stand

its all very easy

there was some1 on the DIY forum who lived in a flat and he had his RO in a airing cupboard and ran 6mm pipe from that to his tank on the ground floor, he lived in a 2 floor flat

yeah all ,y water is at the front of the house nothing at the rear and do not have a garage thats my problem unless I run a pipe all the way round

Is the water on all night or for how long?

i run my 6mm pipe around my house

i have a small RO going into a rain water butt (as in the DIY site, its a picture of my messy garage :

)

my RO is on from 24 hours for each day i work, i work 3 days a week and its on from monday night till thursday night 24 hours a day

Srry bit thick ere. So where does all this water go? surley if you have water pumping into the Water but all day 24hrs where is all the water going It would only take a few hours to fill a water butt up?

60 galls per day RO unit

roughly 12 - 15 3 bed houses

but its the members site (as with all the sites i run), the people who use sites are the real owners, as without them, what would the point be
