Skin Cancer!
« on: April 11, 2018, 10:22:09 am »
I've just been told that I have form of it though not life threatening thankfully so because we all work outside I wanted to ask the question; How many wear caps/hats and cream up every time you go out to work? I only tend to wear a cap when its really hot in the summer. The same goes for creaming up too! My doctor says that I should cream up with a minimum factor 30 every time I work/venture outside even in the winter months! I'm dark haired and have always tanned quite easily so I was surprised to find out that I was more of a risk!

Winkles, lines or the aged hagged look people get when they are not particularly old is because of sun damage.
Ever since I watched a documentary on it I always cream up on the face particularly every day.
If your outside working, you may be like me. My face n arms are always tanned, because even in winter months (not so much this yearit feels) the suns rays are hitting you.
So i wear a cap any way but recently as ive said, i wear sun block as well

Iv worn a hoody and or jacket for god knows how long now because it’s either been too cold or wet to work in a t shirt. Baseball cap is usually worn everyday to either keep the rain off my face , or splashes of pure going on my face or IF we get a sunny day , it stops the sun going in my eyes. Last April I bought some quite expensive factor 50 sun cream from boots and put it on everyday unless it rained because then it mixed with water and stung my eyes 👀

Eating fruit daily is good for the skin.

It seems that I only have to look at the sun and I go brown.

I don't wear any sun cream (it would probably fry me) but I do wear a hat if the sun gets too hot (I got slight sunstroke once - not pleasant).

My wife is very fair skinned and had a melanoma cut from her arm a few years ago, so she has to cover up at any hint of sun.

Winkles, lines or the aged hagged look people get when they are not particularly old is because of sun damage.

Nothing to do with smoking then?

Well we could go on for a very long time as to the long list which can contribute to it, but the sun plays a large part as well.
But it depends how pedantic we want to be   ;D ;D

I'm a four eyed git so I always wear prescription glasses which are "transitions" and they always appear dark even on cloudy days.

I wear a wide brimmed hat if the sun is out (or if it's drizzly to keep the rain off my specs.  :))

And if it's bright I put a bit of sun cream on my nose, bottom lip and cheeks.

It's a game of three halves!

Isn't it being pedantic to make a blanket statement, that people who have wrinkly skin can blame it on the sun? There's no room for other causes in that statement, thats pedantic.

A friend of mine is a skincare specialist. She reckons that I should put sun tan lotion on every day to protect the skin, even in winter, and also moisturise.
She said the problems aren't now, but in 10 or 20 years time.

I hate having a greasy face, so i'll only use sun tan lotion in the summer. However I have started moisturising...it's quite good!  ;D

Good thread guys, skin cancer is aways a risk that we tend to ignore until its too late i have had two melanoma cut out in the last 12 months which were considerd cancerous I very rarely used any sunblock but am going to reconsider this summer (when/if it arrives),
Its a bit like pensions, until the time comes you need them you have usually left it too late. Everbody should be paying more than 10% of there earnings into a pension while they are still earning, as when you are getting on and cant earn, it will look an awfull lot better coming into the bank and the sacrifice will have been worth it.

You must wear very short shorts then.  ;D

We do; hat, factor 30 to 50 and sunglasses.

We also run a lot; trained for an ultra marathon throughout last Summer, so what with work, running, and walking the dog, we spend a lot of time outside in the sun (when we have it).

So it's best to play it safe, but even with all that we still end up dark.
